  • Car Model and Model Car & Science Magazines

I have a number of CM and MCS magazines from the mid 60s up to about 1970. They are interesting sources about vintage slots.
If anyone is interested, I can make an actual inventory or just box them up for you. Shipping will be media mail in the US, not sure about international shipping.

I got something to send you. I don't mind if we wait till we have more to mail. If you just want to get rid of them quick, put them in a plain envelope and send them cheap. Postage has kind of gotten out of hand for small, light items. I don't worry much about condition on old magazines, the worse they are the more enjoyment they have given others!!!

Somewhere down the line, around 17 years ago, I paid just a little bit and got the complete Car Model publication, every page. As bonus material, they included all covers for all Model Car Science and Model Car Racing. I wish there was some kind of identification of the producers, but I never found it. I think it must have been one very dedicated collector with some good equipment. I don't know how he could have made any money from all that work, because I didn't spend much at all, maybe $25 or so. There are 6 dense CD's. Guys, I wish you luck finding that guy who made these, but its worth the bother.

My own original paper keepers from 50 years ago number maybe a dozen, with some CARtoons mixed in, and two ragged and seriously worn Auto World catalogues.

The 66 AW catalog is a real asset to anybody that collects the old stuff. The 67 1/2 catalog is probably best of the whole series, but 66 was the start of overkill in the slot car hobby. Every company out there saw an opening to make slot stuff and AW listed a lot of it.

As Paul knows, years ago a group of us had collected every copy of every model and slot magazine. We put together everything we had and had copies to fill in missing original issues. I ended up with the complete series of the 4 major American magazines. Prices got ridiculous 15 years ago or so and I sold all I had. Fast forward to 3-4 years ago and prices dropped 50% or more. I started buying them again when I could get them for $3-$5 an issue in lots of 5 or more. I now have all but about 10-15 issues of having the complete series again.

I left slot racing in 65/66 and got back in around 80 or so. I missed out on all the stuff made from 66-70. The magazines and AW catalogs helped me learn about all the stuff I didn't know about. We had no internet then, so there was no easy way to learn what was what.

I would love what you have left of the 68 and 69 Model Car Science. I would also like the Car Model issues if that's not being too greedy.
