FIRST ROUND SHELBY-HENDRIX SPEEDWAY

Hello everyone. Even though we haven't gotten as much snow as feared here in central Maine from the current storm, we've had some very cold weather recently and Shelby-Hendrix Speedway was temporarily closed to save on heating. It was -3 degrees F (-18 degrees C) on Saturday, but it's now just below freezing so things might be running shortly.

SIP 2021 Round 1 will use American (over 2 liter) Trans Am replica cars from '67 - '71. We have nearly 4 dozen cars approved for racing in our paddock and 8 closely matched cars will be brought forward to be chosen. It remains to be determined exactly what cars will be used, and what the racing format will be. These factors are being worked on now.

The perils of a track not in the main house. Although shorter I do appreciate being able to run anytime with the track in the basement.

And sheeeeesh.....gotta get below zero before it's cold.

A quick update regarding round 1 at Shelby-Hendrix Speedway.

As stated previously Trans Am cars will be used, and at this time it looks like the race will feature all replicas of actual race cars from Pioneer. That means the field will mostly feature notchback Mustangs though 1 or 2 Camaros might make it onto the starting grid.

The 1 Mile Challenge format will NOT be used for this round, instead there will be a double elimination type tournament featuring 20 lap 2 car races with winners moving on to the next round and cars being eliminated after a 2nd loss. A unique format is being created that will ensure close racing where every lap matters. Photos of the cars will be posted either later today or on Monday.

Sorry, I only have 2 Pioneer Camaros, and the 2nd one is #15 too, so I left it out. The red #15 Camaro of Jocko Maggiacomo only raced in a few east coast events during the big years of the series when the major manufacturers were involved. Later, when the series was in decline he bought a former Penske-Donohue Javelin and won the SCCA championship in 1976.

If I host another round at Shelby-Hendrix Speedway I'll use Jocko's Camaro.

You've got the #2 Shelby Mustang. I was going to wait till there were only 2 cars left, flip a coin, and give you the 'heads' car. Probably would have been the #2 anyway, fate works like that at times.
