Great Traditions (aka GTSLOTS) will run a North America race program for the Carrera DTM car models. The North America Final championship race will be held at Great Traditions, 831 Byberry Road, Philadelphia, PA. Track opens 8 am, tech inspection starts at 10 am, racing scheduled to start about 1 pm.
Due to the impact of covid-19, the GTSLOTS June Finals have been postponed until further notice. The rescheduled date will be communicated here at an appropriate time.
ELIGIBLE DRIVERS: All participants are welcome and must confirm interest in participating by contacting Robert Holt by phone (908-397-7886) or e-mail ([email protected]) no later than one (1) week before the championship event. All drivers that plan on attending the “Championship Event” should take note that the following rules will be utilized and enforced. Modifications to these rules for “Warm-up Events” such as the use of different tires or other specific parts or rules are permitted with advanced notification given by the race director for the event.
ELIGIBLE CARS: Only the following Carrera “DTM” cars are permitted: AMG Mercedes C-Coupe DTM, AMG Mercedes C63 Coupe DTM, Audi A5 DTM, Audi RS 5 DTM, BMW M3 DTM, and the BMW M4 DTM. Only those car models known as being released in 2014 and sooner are approved (see approved cars/parts list). If any additional models are introduced and released, they will be reviewed and added to the above list if eligible. See pictures below for eligible car examples:

GENERAL: Any modifications or parts not specifically addressed in the series rules or are not listed in the approved cars/parts list are not legal and will not be permitted. If the rules stated on this page do not indicate a part or tuning method IS allowed, it is NOT allowed. Any modifications that are made and/or tuning techniques used are made at the racer’s own risk. Any variations to these rules must be approved in advance by GTSLOTS. All rules are subject to change.
THE BODY: Bodies may not be modified, lightened, have parts removed, or cut in any way - including wheel wells, body posts, interiors, etc.
EXCEPTIONS: Sharp edges, burrs, and mold flashing may be trimmed and/or sanded to permit clearance for the proper seating of the body onto the chassis and to allow for body float. No more than .010” of material should be removed where applicable. If a standard credit card can be passed in the gap between the body and chassis, the sanding has exceeded tolerance and the car may fail inspection. All cars must start each race with any and all front and/or rear spoilers/wings, bumpers, air scoops, exhaust details, and miscellaneous body details in place as provided with the car. Antennas, headlight covers, mirrors, and small aerodynamic front trim tabs (winglets) may be missing, but should be replaced when possible. Bodies and interiors can be custom painted, but all cars must have proper numbers and markings as is prototypical and look like race cars of the era represented. All cars must use the complete and unmodified interior w/driver figure as supplied with the car and may be minimally trimmed for fit and function. All windows must remain transparent as is prototypical. Bodies must be attached by any and all screws locations provided by the factory using any manufacturer’s screws and shims are permitted to adjust chassis/body/tire tweak and clearance. If body screws are run loose, tape should be placed over the holes in bottom of the chassis where possible. (Note: split and cracked body posts may be repaired by reinforcement through the use of styrene, aluminum, brass or similar tubing and the use of glue over the damaged post as long as the post’s original height is not altered.)
CHASSIS: NO TRACTION MAGNETS. Stock Carrera chassis only. Slight sanding of the edges of the chassis, the motor mount area, and the cleanup of sharp edges, burrs, and interference points is permitted for the proper seating of the body onto the chassis and body float. No more than .010” of material should be removed. If a standard credit card can be passed in the gap between the body and the chassis, the sanding has exceeded tolerance and the car may fail inspection. Mold flashing and the plastic injection/molding ejection/overflow expansion points may be removed (Note: this does not include any wire pathway posts). NO modifications to axle mounts front or rear are permitted.
AXLES\BUSHINGS\WHEELS\TIRES: Only the stock or approved replacement Carrera front axle/bearing/wheel/tire and rear axle/bearing/gear/wheel assemblies may be used (see approved parts list for correct car by car replacements). Wheels may be painted. CA (Super) glue may be used to repair loose or attach plastic wheels. Front wheels/tires may be glued and trued. Axle shims are permitted. Rear wheels may be trued. The rear axle/bearing/gear/wheel assemble may be glued in place; however it is recommend that if done, that an easily removable adhesive be used, and any such modification is made at the racer’s own risk. Approved rear tires: “Quick Slicks” tire(s) #CA02 (.380”x.862”) or #CA03 (.380”x.882”) silicon tires. Carrera front tires only. The front wheels and tires may not exceed past the body at the wheel wells. The rear wheels and tires should fit within the wheel wells when possible, but may not exceed past the body at the wheel wells by more than .020” (0.5mm). No chemicals may be used on the tires. All rear tires to be supplied by GTSLOTS on race day for the Championship event unless otherwise noted. Tires are subject to change at the Championship event and due to availability some tire sizes may not be available. Hosts for warm-up events can determine tires to be used for their events.
GEARING: ONLY the stock Carrera 9 tooth 5.5 mm plastic pinion and the stock plastic 27 tooth (ratio – 3.00) in-line crown gears are permitted. The pinion may be glued to the motor shaft, however any such modification is made at the racer’s own risk. Driver may apply grease to the gears.
GUIDE BLADES/BRAID/ELECTRICAL: ONLY the unmodified stock Carrera guide blade and braid may be used with a minimum amount of removal of sharp edges and burrs to allow for proper operation. The stock or replacement guide keels may be used (see approved parts list for correct car by car replacements). The stock guide and motor wiring harnesses are to be retained and utilized. The motor wiring harness is to be removed from the stock motor and attached to the replacement motor. All remaining electronic boards, lighting, switches, etc. may be removed and maintained for later use. See pictures below:

Wires may be held in place and supported on the chassis using tape, heat shrink tubing, and/or silicone adhesive. The guide braid may be modified by loosening the brass wrapper (if needed), sliding the braid to the forward end, re-tightening the brass wrapper, folding the braid back, and inserting the braid into the guide assembly. See picture below:

CAR SPECIFIC ALLOWED MODIFICATIONS: In order to foster competition and create parity between the different models of the Carrera “DTM” cars, the following approved modifications are being permitted on a car by car basis (Note: all modifications should be made in a clean and professional manner and not deter from the proper “look” of the car). Any such modifications are made at the racer’s own risk:

MOTOR: Warm-up Events: Motors to be provided by the race host or racers themselves (GTSLOTS black and/or white endbell short can also known as the Piranha 21.5k – rated 21.5k @12volts) using the stock Carrera 9 tooth 5.5mm plastic inline pinion only. (Note: The endbell side shaft may be trimmed.) It is suggested that the motors of the top 5 finishers be tested at the conclusion of the event to confirm legality with the results (if tested) provided to GTSLOTS along with the event race results. (NOTE: Contact GTSLOT technical contacts shown below for additional information on the testing of motors.)
Championship Event: Motors to be provided by the racers themselves (GTSLOTS black and/or white endbell short can also known as the Piranha 21.5k – rated 21.5k @12volts) using the stock Carrera 9 tooth 5.5mm plastic inline pinion only. (Note: The endbell side shaft may be trimmed.) All motors will be tested for RPM as part of the tech inspection process with a maximum not to exceed _______ RPM. (Note: spec will be provided and adjusted accordingly as motors are tested at the event.) No chemicals (example: Voo Doo drops, etc.) shall be added to the motors.
WEIGHT: Weight may be added to the inside of the chassis if desired. Added weight may not be utilized to alter or limit the function or movement of the front or rear axle assemblies. NO weight may be attached to the underside of the chassis.
LIGHTING (Optional): Not required.
TRACK VOLTAGE: Suggested 12 volts (Note: track power will be set at 12 volts for the N. America finals and the GTSLOTS regional races)
RACE PROCEDURES: (as to be used at the N. America finals and GTSLOTS warm-up events):
- All participating race cars will be inspected to ensure rule compliance. A few test laps (the number to be determined by the race organizer) will be allowed prior to the final inspection.
- It is the responsibility of each participant to make sure that the front spoiler, chassis, and crown gear of their car has sufficient clearance to the track and pickup rail surface so as not to rub under race conditions and will be inspected for such clearance.
- Loose parts, wheel inserts, etc. may be attached and/or repaired using any type of available glue.
- Cars will be impounded after the inspection process and drivers cannot touch their cars unless done under “green flag” race conditions under the observation of a race official.
- Any controller is permitted, provided that the controller does not store an electrical charge.
- The race director for the event (the race organizer holding the event) will have the final determination if any questions or conflicts arise.
- Drivers and/or their authorized representatives may repair broken or damaged cars (IE: damaged braids, broken wires, loose gears and/or wheels, loose or missing screws, etc.) during “green flag” conditions, only under the view of a race official assigned by the race director, repairs must be properly performed to meet all posted rules, and parts may not be torn or broken off the car where screws are used to retain the parts (IE: the front spoiler, etc.) to perform the repair.
- For any clarification of the race procedures being used at the National Championship please contact: Robert Holt by phone (908-397-7886) or e-mail ([email protected]) Bob Kuss by phone (610-996-0595) or e-mail ([email protected])

- On those cars’ who’s chassis has body post receivers that are cupped, the body post receivers on the chassis may be chamfered (not removed) using a countersink, a drill bit, or other means to allow for the free movement of the body posts. In addition, the ends of the body posts may also be slightly tapered to also allow for their free movement of the body posts in the body post receivers on the chassis.
