  • Members vs. Visitors

Every time I come to this Forum (and others) I notice there are always considerably more "Visitors" than "Members".......... do folks just not sign in ??......while I do have my opinions, It would be nice to hear what others think, and it would be really great to figure out a way to convert some of these "Visitors" .........

Not sure if this has been discussed before.......so......apologies if it has.

    Cheers

I stayed signed in all the time, but maybe if other regulars don't stay signed in they just show up as visitors.

I have noticed the same thing, if you just look at the number of people that are logged in you would think that the hobby was moribund. The number of people that post on a regular basis is rather low, I for one would like to see more activity. Ten years ago I expect that most people were using a desktop or laptop computer to do their surfing, today probably most people are using a smartphone. I often do long posts with pictures and links, I don't think that I would do that very much if I only used a touch screen device.

Some of the guests are probably bots. One example: search engines such as Google use bots to gather data about sites and content. I saw somewhere that up to 60% of forum activity (might even have been total internet activity!) is bot-based.

I stay signed in and usually try to check in a 3-4 times a day to see what's new. I try to add interesting stuff to start threads everyone might have something to add to. I like to show builds and tracks. I want to start a thread that everyone can add to and I will do that tomorrow, I just haven't taken time to get the pictures, but I will tomorrow,

Interesting. 90% of the time if I am looking I am signed in. Would not be surprised if a lot of bots were collecting data, downloading pages etc.

Someone informed me today that as a visitor that my contribution to this thread was unable to be seen. Can anyone tell me if this is the case for them? I have tried as a visitor and had no problems looking at the photos etc. Thanks.

Here is a thought. I am automatically signed in when on my computer. But on a old computer, when i am not logged in.
Also when i check on my phone (not very often) i am not logged in,
Maybe these other devices like tablets are not logged in when on the site?

When you are logged on with a computer, and logged on with a tablet, does the HRW site count bothe the loggins and have a different way to display?
Example, if i an logged in on my computer, and logged in on a tablet, does it show Lance as being 2 people logged in or is 1 maybe a guest?

awhile back on the other form, the owner was saying about autonomous computers and hacks and attacks on his site. when i looked at the whose online, it had lots of viewers,

during this post there were 15 members and 40 guests
