Speaking of 9/18... Just thought I'd mention -- September 18, 1970... the world loses incredible talent Jimi Hendrix, guitar god of his day. First real pro rock concert I ever saw was the Jimi Hendrix Experience in the summer 1969, Madison Square Garden, NYC. Went with the band mates that I would win a recording contract with the following summer. Still got the concert program, and yes, I still miss that man. Can't believe that was 50 years ago... I never got to see Jimi perform, but he's been a music hero to me since high school days. I learned about his death from my driver's ed teacher as a senior. I still listen to his music more than anyone else, with the possible exception of B.B. King. Before becoming popular enough to be a headliner himself Jimi spent some time opening for BB.
Rather than remember Jimi on 9/18 I do that on Nov. 27th, his birthday.

If memory serves, some promoter booked Jimi to open for the Monkees!!
THAT didn't last for too many shows...
