Yesterday was the 31st annual running of our BIG show here on Long Island at the Huntington Hilton Hotel, hosted by Bob "Mr. Aurora" Beers. It was once again a huge success for both the attendees and vendors. 400 plus through the door, of which I estimate at least 25% of paid the $20 early admission fee to insure a crowd free shopping experience and, of course, first shot at the wares the vendors occupying the 70 or so tables had brought in. At 10 am, the main crowd flowed through the doors for the usual $5 fee, and things got REALLY busy! I had a steady stream of customers, friends and fellow racers at my vendor table from 7 am to well after 12 noon. Many people had traveled from out of state, and not just the Tri State area -- California, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, Delaware and the New England states were represented just to name a few.
Steve Russell (son of RussKit slot car pioneer Jim Russell) once again made the trip from Nevada to represent the family's company, Racemasters. They are the North American distributors for TOMY / AFX HO scale slot car products, the standard of the industry in sets and production cars.
I scored some cool stuff for myself, mostly parts for the cars that I currently race with four different HO clubs here on the Island, and a new controller custom built by a long time friend in the hobby. That was weird for me because I usually build my own controllers, but this new one is a specially made switchable resistance high ohm model for T Jet racers on those really twisty circuits. Looking forward to using that, for sure!
Next show is of course next year, Super Bowl Sunday 2021. I highly recommend the trip to all HO slot car racers and collectors, as that is the main focus of this (and many) slot car shows.
