That is really nice looking. I don't follow real racing, so could someone please tell me what models this car would compete against? I always try to get 3 or 4 of every type of car for racing on my track.

Porsche 917k
Alfa Romeo T33/3*
Ferrari 312P / PB*
Lola T70
*Classified as Prototype (not Sports) at some races.
Point your browser at racingsportscars.com, search on the Ferrari 512M, then look at the lists of entries for the races.Last edited by PetesLightKits; May 4, 2022, 10:40 AM.

I was going to recommend a series of books Sports Car Racing in Camera, but a check shows the prices have dramatically escalated in recent years. The books, plus an F1 series, cover 10 year time spans and have nice color pictures of the cars that ran in that decade, year by year.

I must be dense or something, but that shows me the races the Ferrari 512 raced in, not what vehicles it competed against. I can find references to competing against Porsche 917 and possibly Ford GT, but I don't know if that's accurate or a complete list.Last edited by Bal r 14; May 4, 2022, 03:26 PM.

This is my favourite era of LeMans. The 1971 line up was magnificent with these Ferraris, the short and long tail 917s, and the famous 917/20 Pink Pig! I think i read that the next version of this car will be the blue Sunoco car. I was hoping for the yellow version.Ralph

You have to click on the races to see what cars raced. They are there.

The (beautiful) Ferrari 512M featured in this post has not been released yet but is available for preorder from dealers. Slot.It has also announced they'll be releasing another 512M version, the #6 blue and yellow Sunoco car driven by Mark Donohue . As noted in the title and on the case, these Ferrari's raced against each other in the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hour race (see official entry list below).
The red #16 Ferrari is 16th on the list and the blue #6 Ferrari is 11th on this list (3rd & 4th are missing). Looking through the list you can see the other cars in the race. You may not care about specific racing versions of these cars but the variety of cars shows what makes ran in the World Sportscar Championship Series (WSCS) during that era. {The link above will allow you to check out the entry lists from other races the 512M ran in.)
Your problem will be getting slot car replicas of these cars that are good racing partners. Slot.It doesn't make Porsche 917 or Lola T70 cars, which would be ideal partners. They do make Matras that raced at Le Mans a few years later and Ford GT40s that ran at Le Mans in the late 60s. A field of Slot.It cars would likely be better racing partners than mixing manufacturers. I have a class of 30ish WSCS cars from '66 to '73 mostly composed of Fly classics and Scalextric cars. These are relatively equal. I don't have any Slot.It WSCS cars because they would out perform the others. Having a field of cars that are replicas of actual starting grids is very nice, but for fun racing they need to be equal performance-wise.

Wow, what a beautiful replica of a favorite Ferrari Le Mans prototype. I purchased the FLY 512M slot car (if memory serves it had a #24 in the roundel) back when it first was released. I think it's got about 15 minutes track time on it, I remember it being pretty fast compared to what was available back then. I didn't buy it for racing, just to have a little driving FUN and admire on the shelf in the plastic case. I'm primarily running, racing, building, and collecting HO slots, have been since the first Aurora Model Motoring sets. Everything from the Vibrator cars right up to the modern AFX Mega G+ models.
Thanks for sharing the photos. Enjoy! -- Ernie

There are some great options for this car.
I am thinking Sunoco next and then there is the Camel car (yellow) and the Tergal and some stunning red ones.
