  • Vintage Trans Am Thunder Jets

Over twenty years ago I made some vintage Trans Am cars from the 1970 season utilizing original Aurora Thunder Jet chassis. I always wanted to expend this group and Road Race Replicas & Model Motoring have made some cars from this period. And recently Auto World has added their efforts I recently received some. Like all race cars my originals were getting rather worn out so these new releases are saving me a lot of time and effort plus it’s most likely more cost effective too.
The new Dodge Challenger is excellent! The Plymouth AAR Cuda is very nice but does not have the correct hood for the actual race car, it would have been better if Auto World had used a body with no hood scoop.
The Boss 302 Mustang is a bit larger than the original Aurora version. There’s pics of the Aurora, RRR & AW versions. And the rear wing shouldn’t be on the car.

Very cool! Nice! I made a Posey Challenger and Gurney Cuda with a scratch built AAR hood years ago. Still got them.

I bought this body on eBay a long time ago. It’s painted more of a metal flake gold than the proper “Hugger” orange of the 1970 Bud Moore Trans Am race cars. AND it had George Follmer’s name on the roof but with a #15 which was Parnelli Jones number. It appeared that the decals were Road Race Replica “N132”. So I finally realized all I needed to do was apply the #16 of Mr. Follmer on top of the incorrect number for a more accurate mini-replica.
