  • Another BRM Mini question

OK, so the rear axle is at a camber (I call it a camber). Doesn't that mean that the rear tires never give you a completely flat contact patch?
Just for giggles I loosened the axle mounts to straighten the axle out. Worked fine until I tightened the mounts back up - Camber City.
IIRC, it looks like there's a lip on the bottom of the axle mount (I'm currently at work and I can't recall exactly) to ensure a camber.

You can still true the tires by hand untill they are not cambered at the track surface.... ORRRRRR.... Revoslot 1/32 cars have the same size axle towers and I did a complete rear end swap using my white kit's inused chasis parts. Transformed the handling!

Great fix, Paul. I’ve never understood the reasoning behind the camber.
FWIW Frankenslot offers a tapered front tire for the Escorts and Opels that have front camber. I’m told they work wonders.

I am guessing the camber is there because that is what the real cars look like when they were set up to race.

I actually considered using the cambered towers on the front of the Mini... I'm sure it would look very racey!

On 1/8 scale on road Nitro RC car they run a lot of rear camber, but the tires are trued mostly flat. There is some benefits in the handling department when this is done.

At the 24hrs of Tacoma this year BRM brought us Foam rubber tires that were angle cut for the back. The handling on the cars was unreal compared to any rubber tire car I have driven!
