1/24 AMT chassis finished

Thank you Chris, I can't seem to be able to find that clear/future in Australia so I'll get some of Tamiya finish I never thought of trying epoxy , everything I have tried fogs the clear parts !

I've been using clear Gorilla glue and am very happy with how clear it dries.

Can I ask you explain how to best do windscreens and clear parts and what glue you use ? I'm not to bad at most everything else except for the clear parts!!

Sure,.......

1/ Even with new (unmarked) windshields, I give them a quick polish,...I use Tamiya "finish" compound,.. but there are several similar products. (Klear/Future also works great on clear parts)

2/ If the windshield needs, or, would look better with a rubber gasket, I mask and spray a gasket with flat black

3/ I use "5 minute" 2 part epoxy as it dries clear., and will not fog clear parts............whenever the windshield has little posts that insert into the holes in the body,....put a touch of epoxy (with a toothpick). into the hole in the body, NOT, on to the pegs of the windshield. This will push the glue into the holes and not up the posts on to the windshield.

There are several good glues to use..........epoxy, white glue, and canopy glue (for model airplanes) all work well and dry clear.

I do essentially the same with all clear plastic parts.

Beautifully finished piece - and with those *value-added* touches: screen mesh, metal ferrule intakes, body openings opened - nicely finished!

Looks really great! There is something about those old slot cars that is missing from the modern era offerings. Metal chassis - quality built to last a century.

In current times I have put together a couple vintage cars using new old parts and cleaned up used stuff. Sometimes I wonder if future slot car archaeologists will assume they were built in 1966.

I remember in full size vintage racing a guy was running a “special” and when pressed on what year it was he said it was as old as its newest part - in that case - it was the 1929 radiator.

I guess elbow grease always does the trick, chassis has a beautiful finish!

Hi Lou E, I do not have a tumbler, but, I do think about getting one,.......I have always just used some fine grade (6000+) polishing cloths, and Simichrome polish.

PS I do have access to a tumbler, but rarely (really rarely) use it.

I ran out of edit time on my other AMT Lola T70 thread, so ,I will post the finished chassis here.

It is an AMT chassis (1966) that has had some piano wire bracing, a front brass axle tube for strength ( the front end was prone to bending in a crash), a few other bits, and a modified AMT 36D from Mr. Havlicek.

The finished body is in my other 1/24 AMT Lola T70 thread....posted yesterday
