  • 1/24 COX PICTURES

After seeing Chris's thread about his Cox BRM, I I thought I would add some pix of Cox cars. I don't have anything to the talent level of his car, but over the years I've had them all. Anybody wants to add more pix to this thread, go ahead.

    Everybody loves a Cheetah!

Fantastic. Do I detect a metalflake repaint on the red one?

The red one was painted when I got the body. Not being a "purist" about this stuff, I was happy with how it looked and didn't give a thought to stripping it. I really think it is a transparent red that was sprayed over the original red. The gold car I painted and it was an original gold body, but the plastic was so ugly, I put a nice coat of lacquer on it. The blue one was the nicest of them all, and an original blue body. The red Cheetah setting on the rtr box is from the ISO kit. I don't remember where it came from.

There were two Cheetah kits available. The standard mag chassis car with the dark red body and the brighter red body in the ISO kit which had the Cucaracha chassis.
Any other color was available only as a body kit that came on a big card with one of every color on it. Blue, light green, dark green, black, gold, maybe red.

I still have the mag frame version,. Over the years, some of those cars got worth too much for me to just leave them setting on a shelf in the basement.

I should have saved more pics of cars & kits that I've sold off. Here are a couple of pics that I hadn't deleted yet.

Dave, do you remember where the 2E came from? About 25 years ago, I traded you an rtr 2E for a pink Lola! I've got a lot of pictures, but couldn't find one of a light green Cheetaracha. I had I built from a new body kit. It's a nice color, too, but the blue is my favorite Cheetah.

Matt, I remember that trade and that is the 2E that came from you. I no longer have it though, but have 3 other project rtr 2E's that will make 2 good complete original parts runners. Joel in Toledo got into Cox cars about 5 yrs ago and I sold him a huge lot of cars and body kits including that 2E. He also took a have dozen Cuc's in different colors, 3 ISO Cheetah's red/black/gold, the pink Lola pictured above and etc., etc., etc.

Or,......maybe 3 .........the standard Cheetah, the Cheetaracha, and, the "Team Modified Cheetah". This one came with the Nascar 36D motor, long drop arm, sponge tires mounted on mag wheels, and the mag chassis with the separate aluminum motor mount plate.

              Cheers
              Chris Walker

PS The "Team Modified" Cheetah was my first Cox kit.

You're right Chris, I forgot all about the TM kits. They all came with the darker red body, same as the other mag frame kits.

Spent some time in the basement this morning, went into a display case and pulled out a Cox Lotus box which probably hadn't been opened in 10-15 years. I was surprised to find five project cars inside, 3 kit cars, 2 rtr cars with steering units and 1 extra rtr chassis with steering unit. I'm repairing a couple of body posts on the car dismantled on the bench, I can't in good conscious sell something with out giving it a once over. After selling most of my 1/24 mint rtr slot cars, kits and body kits this is just a small sample of the kind of stuff that I have left over. I'll be spending more time at my bench as there are plenty more boxes to get into.

I have this problem.....periodically I open a box and think...."oh yeah, forgot I had those".....
Except I don't have 5 copies of the Cox Lotus stashed away. LOL

Never know what's hiding do you? I'm not that bad/good anymore, I've tried to move out what I really don't want and I have tried to not buy more projects.
I still have a lot to do. The Cox Lotus seems to me to be the best of those hard body cars.

I have the car I have been working on to take to tomorrows race at Chicago Land. I pretty much was following the modifications that Chris showed in his post about the mag frame cars and how he re-worked the chassis. I remember that post from the past and while I can't do that quality work, I can copy it to my ability.

...wow... ... those look much better than the 1/32 Strombecker I got a while back. Hope you'll post some close-ups, if the mood strikes...

                      The mag chassis 2D

                      The ISO 2E:

Paul, you should be ashamed of that deal! Everybody finds a great deal every now and then.

Very nice score! Did the 2D have the rear wheel openings enlarged to fit the replacement rear tires?

Nope....the 2D isn't cut, so I really lucked out. I have the Monogram kit too, so I will have a couple of different versions in 1/24.
