I did have a VIP set as a kid (got mine for Xmas 1961), but, it was the F1 set, and I still have the original cars..............and no, you did not get a shock if you touched the track

The wiring is pretty simple, really. think of the whole lane on each side of the slot as the braid. since the slot is all the way thru the track, you can run + and - into each track and control the cars. The deal is that each car is opposite since the track between the slots carries current to the right pickup braid on the left car and it delivers the same current to the left bradi on the right side car. Pretty original thinking.
If you lick two pieces of track across the slot, you would get a little buzz, if a car was running!!Matt B
