Picked up this old set from a Craigslist seller. Still fresh from the attic. They need a good cleaning, tires, etc.

i don't suppose that any of the tires are still soft...
If new tires are needed, RSSlotracing makes repro urethane tires for just about every Vintage scaley car,....the repros use the original tires as molds.

Chris you never cease to amaze me. Those are just extraordinarily good. Out of sight better than what they looked like new from Scalextric and to my eyes they even look better than the original 1:1 cars they represent!

There were a couple more F1 cars from this Scaley series,.....the Lotus 21, and the Ferrari 156 "sharknose",......along with the Cooper and the Lotus 16, they all had the "clamshell" body/chassis, and the upper/lower body pieces were attache by nylon pins, front and back. This series utilized "pin" guides and were powered by the open frame "train" motors so common in the early 60's slot cars. While they were far from the best in terms of speed and handling, with a bit of work they could be made to run quite well,....they will not scare any modern stuff, but, in their own right are, they are a lot of fun.
Pictured below are both the Lotus 21 ( painted in Rob Walkers' dark blue/white nose band), and, the Ferrari 156.
I did swap out the wheels/inserts, and made a few small mechanical improvements, but the bodies/drivers are stock, with a bit of paint, and decals. They do lack the level of detail that is found on more modern models, but, once underway, it is hard to tell
Not what the Scaley "purists" would do, but, they do run/look a bit better to my eye.

PS, This post is not intended to hijack this thread,.....just thought this was the right pace for these.
Lotus 21........it is painted in Tamiya Dark Navy,......not black, and represents the car Stirling Moss drove for Rob Walker
Ferrari 156 "Sharknose"
