CORRECTION - this is SIP Round #2

As planned the cars for round 2 were selected yesterday but couldn't get photos taken till today. Here's the lineup of Can Am cars:

These cars were intentionally chosen for diversity of makes and types of cars. Despite differing reputations based on make of car, these are all closely matched on my track as slower cars out of the box were tuned to catch up with faster cars out of the box.

Choose your cars - if there are ties the current lower ranking team will get the car. Slothead Racing will take the last car.

The Mark Donohue Porsche 917/30 has actually been a solid performer on my track. The Can-Am series had many iconic cars, but this car was exceptionally dominate in the latter years of the series.

Though these cars are virtually twins, I actually meant to photograph the Slot.It #33 Alfa Romeo 33/3 for inclusion in this race.

This car is being inserted into the field as the vonsirius selection instead of the #32.

Team Chappyman spent the afternoon working on the Ferrari, getting set up and familiarization work done. Hopefully we can get some good practice in, maybe scrub a set of tires. We know we have a fast car that can handle well....it's a world champion winner after all!

The management of Shelby-Hendrix Speedway apologizes for any confusion caused during the selection process. After a long and stressful meeting to select cars to be made available, a slightly different set of cars were photographed. It seems that rather than check his notes the track manager tried to remember the cars to pull out and goofed.

Initially neither Alfa Romeo 33/3 was going to be in the race but once on the grid the #32 displayed a chassis problem so it's stablemate took its place. Having a lone Slot.it in the field certainly creates a stir, as does a Policar. However, the remaining cars intend to put up a fight and defend their honor.

The field is set as follows:

              #1 Ferrari 312P - Chappyman66
              #4 McLaren M6A - Hksk25
              #6C - Chevron B19 - Racing Bandit
              #6P Porsche 917/30 - DW5555
              #7M McLaren M8D - Slothead
              #33 Alfa Romeo - vonsirius

The starting order will be set based on inverted qualifying position, slowest starts first and fastest starts last. These are closely matched cars and the difference between qualification times is expected to be small. The plan is to run 2 races (length yet to be determined) with the first using the qualification based starting order and the second to have its starting order set by inverting the finishing order from the first race. Points will be awarded for each race and the total will determine final finishing positions. Ties will be broken based on better finishing position from the second race.

Hmmmm - looks like no cars left to choose from? Guess our team has lost out for this round?

Ya know what, Tusco will take the Porsche. I initially said I was in this series but did not pick in the 1st round. I am in the other solo series so I will bow out gracefully.

Team Chappyman66 believes that competition improves everyone. In that spirit, we will would support petitioning SHS management to allow additional entrants if cars are available.

                      Nah! We can't have that!
                      First come first serve Dave!
If another car becomes available, the T-County boys will snag that - if not, our crew will "observe" the other crews and see what tips and tricks we can pick up!

There's room at the table for everyone! SHS has plenty of Can Am cars to choose from.

Dave (DW5555) gets to keep the #6P Porsche 917/30 and Todd (T-County Lugnuts) is being offered the #7L Lola T70 MK2 (Monogram) car that's a replica of John Surtees' championship car.

This Monogram car has recorded times that are very competitive with the other cars in the series and are nearly tied with those of the Porsche 917/30.

Welcome aboard T-County. Shelby-Hendrix Speedway is delighted to host a 7 car race.

If anyone else wants in the next car available will be equally competitive. All of the cars being offered have posted 5 lap average qualification times that fall within a range of 0.151 seconds from top to bottom. And that's for lap times that are over 9 seconds.

                        Any takers?
