  • 2020 technical inspections!

I will be doing a tech inspection on the cars tonight.

I will be checking primarily for performance related infractions. The tire rule was opened up slightly this year, and will be strictly enforced. I did not open it up to be exploited, it was to make it easier for those with less resources to mount some tires on any slot.it or nsr 8.5 wheel and be legal for this proxy.

    Spreadsheet to follow!

Proxy tech inspection and rule enforcement is a good thing, it makes it more fair for everyone.

Good luck with the event and good luck to all the entrants.

Hi Zack, What exactly does that entail/mean ??.......while I am more than happy for anyone to take my car apart bit by bit at the end of the proxy, adjusting body screws, altering lead wire routing etc.etc. before the cars have run, and after the owners have put some considerable effort into their set-ups, is certainly something I would not favour.

      Cheers

Alright guys. I have completed the tech inspection with the cars are very clearly over the limit. I will be deciding what kind of penalty should be assessed for this. I feel that with the rules being opened up and well discussed this yer, this should not be an issue.

There are also a couple mechanical issues pointed out with the cars, that don't inhibit it from passing tech but may cause problems down the road.

Mseitz- Your undercar ballast is very loose on the car already, I am giving you option to have me remove it at no penalty or wait it out. But it if comes loose during race proceedings I will asses a penalty at that time.

Aloha-The rear tires on your car are just too wide, and it looks like no attempt was made to narrow them. Some of the cars are right at the limit, but with rounding the contact patch was lower, and I could tell they made an effort to narrow the tires.

Glasshorsevh- you are in the same boat.

Mitch58- The back of you car is very low, even compared to many of the other GT40's in the field. This i think it partly because the front ride height is off.

The rest of the infractions are marginal at best, and IMO will not significantly alter performance.

A couple of the cars did not include information on the bottom, this is very helpful. I will put names on the cars in sharpie, unless otherwise directed.

Here is the link to the Tech, Red denotes a fail, Yellow means it is currently right at the limit. Tech problems are seen in special notes.

Arrold it is the rear that has a significant amount. The front guide is tight enough I do believe it will lead to handling issues unfortunately.

Zack do what you think is best. I will accept any penalties. The rear on the Ferrari I am shocked at that finding. I wonder what could have happened. Just when I thought I had a podium car. Is first race still Feb 1st? I'll pay for priority mail to fix it and send it back if that is an option.

The motor is a Scalextric FF050 Red Can rated at 21k on the 67 car.

Mitch, as you can see in this photo, your front left wheel is off the ground. With this corrected your rear ride height may be within spec.

ALS, This is the front body screw on the vette, as you can see it is very crooked. Please advise if this is how it was shipped.

BARC1, you can see here the left front wheel is off the ground on your car. You can also see the potential problem with guide depth.

All four wheels made contact when shipped. Perhaps some adjustment on the mounting screws will relax the chassis enough to fix issues

From the photo I can not ascertain what the guide issue is? Lighting and reflection causing some interference

Your infraction is very minimal Doc. I am not concerned about it. But you are welcome to correct.

The lack of paint on the arms/suit was intentional as I was looking for a black race suit look. As the interior was 3D and painted I thought I was compliant. Now I know that black on black is not allowed.

For future reference, if the seat belts would have been painted I would have accepted it. The whole torso etc is just the same as the rest of the interior, leaving an unfinished look. The car itself is awesome looking!

Is all of the ballast loose or is there one particular piece?

The two pieces in the sides of the chassis in particular are sagging at the rear.

Alright guys, I have been thinking about the best way to conduct penalties for the infractions in this race.

I will only penalizing the tire infractions, as I do not believe the cars that are under on height have any significant advantage over the others. Especially since it is typically one end of the car only.

Bigduhg- Penalty of 5 series points, I can tell you made an effort to reduce the size of the tire, just likely got the measurement wrong. If you car is good, this gap can easily be made up.

Aloha- Penalty of 10 series points. This gives every other GT40 a chance to score points over you in round 1 (if they are indeed the fastest).

Glasshorsevh-10 series points. Again, the higher penalty reflects that no effort was made to narrow the tires to the specified width.

I will also be changing the rules next year if the series goes on. Weight outside the limit of the vehicle, except for the guide, will not be allowed. I feel that many of the ride height infractions were due to this, and I do not want to debris to come off during races and cause delays for the guys who already take time out to race our cars.

This is all the penalties at this time.

Now that the pleasantries are over....the cars are being dropped off tonight to be qualified next week! RACE ON.

If we run as per usual, 10 points won’t make any difference.

Didn't read your last post until I had already made a comment in post 6.4. Since cars are schedule to be moved tonight I guess I'll have to suffer failure to give the car the 2nd and 3rd look over.I called myself not procrastinating on this one

Zack - thanks for the scrutineering and spreadsheet. Must have taken considerable time. Even though I went through the rules and checked off all boxes, I was nervous that I may have overlooked or misread something. Looking forward to the qualifying. That will pretty much tell me how the entire season will go!

Your car is prepped to the letter, nicely done. It is also a great looking car, well done!

I am very interested to see how the A/P race goes. All of these cars while GT40's, are built completely differently! It should be really cool to see where the strengths lie.

PS. yes it took me about 2 hrs to look over all of them and do the spreadsheet, but rules are useless unless we enforce them.
