  • 2021 Rules Discussion

All, please reference the 2020 season rules, I want to allow a comment period before posting the official rules for 2021.

    2020 rules for reference

I would like to keep this discussion to past, current, and perspective entrants, as they are the ones actually building cars and participating in this series.

My first topic is TIRES! Last year we added a tire option to the series for the first time in many seasons. Being completely honest, I did not get to build anything new or test with the PGT. Also, I had old stock of the UST to use up.
    We have 3 options:
    1. Continue with both Urethane Super Tires and Paul Gauge Urethane FIRM tires
    2. Go to strictly Paul Gauge tires, FIRM compound
      1. These are easier to get
      2. We get series support from PG and SCC which is a retailer
    3. Go back to the previous rule which mandated the Urethane Super Tires.
      1. These have become difficult to get at times
      2. We have not had series support from Super Tires
    Please comment your thoughts.

I would like to see us run on one tire only. I think it should be a tire that we can get easily, So I would say use PG FRIM tires.

I am in favor of the Paul Gage firm tires. My decision is based solely on availability and doesn’t reflect any bias toward either supplier.

Scott, Do you see any big changes in the COT class?

I have never had a problem getting SuperTires. I am on the mailing list and get their monthly special page every month. I order directly from them and have never had an issue. I would be in favor of leaving it up to the individual builder.

Ordering direct is part of the problem. It doesn’t help out the shops that keep this hobby going.

It would be great if the retail price wasn’t slashed to sell direct

Yeah I used to order them from SCC until they dropped them for PG.

Do we know if Nick or Sandy has been reached out to for sponsorship?

arroldn, I have had conversations with Nick in the past. He had provided tires for a local series I participated in I’ve in the past.

When we discussed this series previous years there was some hesitation.

What I can say is that the series was reached out to by PG and SCC, they came to us.

I would move to Paul Gage Firm Tires as the standard IMHO.

So can I still use SuperTires on the front? Or is this just Paul Gauge on the rear?

The front tires are/will be open choice including but not limited to stock or aftermarket including zero grip

Just had another thought pop into my head...

What does everyone think about allowing the Scalextric 80s IROC Camaro in the Winston Cup class? While they did not technically race together they did typically race on the same tracks. Also, for the painters there are many short track liveries to do on them.

I would not support that as it is a completely different class.

I disagree. This is Winston Cup not IROC. While I don't have the Camaro, I would think it would be smaller and lighter. The class was full last year. The COT class lost the most number of cars since we began running that class. Let's keep it pure.
