  • World Championship Slot Car Proxy Build Thread

    Hello Boys and Girls

As you already know CGYRacer and I currently organize a couple of proxy series under the Championship Proxy Event banner. The rules and standards are mostly the same for these two events, and who knows, we might even bring back the Group 5 cars, or perhaps try something different one of these days.....(I just got my first "mini" 24th scale car......)......but I digress.

The reason for mentioning this is that now that the GT3 cars are on their way to round 1, the time is right for me to refocus your attention onto the WCSCP series.

Looking forward to seeing what you are working on, don't be shy, post your builds here!

    Chris

I have heard rumours that there are people entering this series that have their Porsche running similar lap times to their GT3 car.....BTW, that's not me!

I am testing a very nice & smooth longcan motor, but I am also looking for a shortcan motor that's discontinued and hard to find....I am tempted to post here, but then you will all know what I am up to....

It wouldn't be a dark blue Scaleauto ball bearing 20,500 rpm short can - would it?

Nope, as far as I know I was the first (or at least one of the first) proxy racer's to use one of those, in fact on SCI somewhere is a post a made that the BB motor is one of my favourites, then I found them at CricCrac (the Scaleauto guys) on sale for a ridiculous price and a bought a few. I also told Mike at Cloverleaf and I think he bought the rest of their stock

Same here Sir Aloha , I’m expecting monsters from the Gentlemen Builders participating in this proxy. And after seeing “pre tuning” video of the Heli_ca Porsche and guessing what the Sirs are up to wow.

I need all the points I can get, so best get started on my Canadian Tire Porsche.....hope it does not turn out to be a Crappy Tire Porsche!

I had difficulty finding a white kit, so repainting the yellow FromA livery....I think I am adding about 5g to the body....stupid is as stupid does....but luckily I have that secret motor...

In keeping with the white body theme that some of us discussed back in the Summer, here are the modified Repsol decals on my #5 car:

Much more work ahead, that's for sure, but it's a start now.

I’m in need of a tune from Magnus, suspension from Manthey, horsepower from Ruf and cosmetics from Gemballa in order to compete with you guys. More pod work is needed along with light chassis and guide work. My 962 is no where close to my GT3 but its much easier to drive deeper into a corner and start accelerating earlier to carry more speed out of corners compared to my GT3 car during testing BC. But of course, the GT3 would fly past it in the straight with its rear spoiler on fire. The GT3 had a motor swap, the guide replaced and some front body cosmetic surgery and shipped off with only 6 laps of testing This time the 962 will not have a chance for additional testing at the routed test track that’s both non essential and 4 hours away.

I ran a first-try mule for 100 or so laps yesterday; I'd forgotten how smooth and predictable the low-slung Slot.It Porsche 956/962 can be.

Now, if I can just find that extra 5/10's of a second that puts it where my GT3 car was on this track - and then the other 2/10's that it would take to put my GT3 car in a competitive position............I'd be all set............

            7/10's - 2 1/2 months - piece of cake - right?

Update - Another 1/10th gained through better tire finishing. Slow going, but now 2/10ths faster than my GT3 car ......... After 3 years I've regained my own track record at 5.242 sec/lap, previously held by Dave West's (DRW21) CanAm McLaren M6 (5.282 sec/lap). A sane person would stop at this point.........but, we still have almost 2 months, so it's probably time to try to improve still more, which will undoubtedly mean that my lap times will simply go up.............

Congratulations Allan, that's an impressive achievement considering the quality of the cars that race on your track. This proxy is shaping up to be something else!

Final update - through the judicious application of advanced slot car racing theory, coupled with deft electrical and mechanical execution techniques, I have succeeded in adding 2/10's plus to my car's best lap times, compared to the end of January. I'm not sure where the 10ths went, and I certainly worked hard to try to find them, but...........perhaps they'll return in two years when this event comes around again. Good luck to everyone in the series!

I agree Dale. The thought of every tenth of a second we need to scratch and claw out of a car make me sick too! That’s why I’m perseverating!

Time for me to get to work on my car. I got all of the plastic pieces off of the body ready for the alcohol tank. Will order new parts when I get home tonight. Trying to decide if I build 2 and send the best . 1 inline and 1 anglewinder or sidewinder. Mabuchi or Flat6. Where's that chief engineer?????

Rob it hasn't hit the alcohol yet. Just took all the pieces off of the body. I had no idea how loved this livery was. I may reconsider. If 9 hasn't been taken 9 is my Birthday. 53 is the year. Now I will have to decide.
So Stevee has #9 guess I'll have to re-number the car if I keep this livery.

Canadian Tire decals are done, need to wait a few days before clear....just like me in these Covid times, the body has gained some weight, but unlike me I was able to order a back up!!

Hello all. Hope everyone is safe and well during these challenging times. Starting to get to work on my entry. I have a feeling this is going to be an extremely competitive series. Unless someone finds that holy grail of motor gear combination, we all are going to be looking at some stiff competition.

Do to COVID restrictions, I’m in lock down and bored out of my mind..... I’ve have taken out a few of my cars in hope to find something extra. So far, nothing to write home about. What I am really struggling with is I have spent hours just with weight and it really doesn’t make much difference. I am starting to believe part of my issue is my track. Not that the cars run bad, they run great. I’m missing something and it’s frustrating.

CG’s 3d pods don’t fit well without significant mods to the interior. I’m worried that would be pushing the rules?

            • #15
Smokeio raises a good point and I want to confirm that I have no intention of removing the body to inspect the cars, I am going to look at the interior through the window and it needs to appear, painted and detailed as per the original.
