  • Trans-Am U2.0 Proxy - Covid-19 effects?

With the rather rapid close-down of many states right now, does it make sense to postpone this Proxy entirely until we have a better perspective on what's going to happen?

California is pretty much closed up right now, and I think it is going to get worse before it gets better.

Opinions, especially from Brumos RSR would be welcome.

That's something that has been on my mind and I've been thinking about each day. At this point, I would perfer to not make a decision until April 15th with cars due May 15-17th. Continue to build, stay informed and we will monitor the situation and defininately make decisions at that time. I will check in with hosts to gain an understanding of their environment, health and thoughts. We don't want anyone harmed 1st and we don't want to make a decision where (optimistically thinking) we could be near the back side of this prior to May15th. Which means 1st race is in June.

The biggest I’ve found is racing cancellations. I prepped all the cars and track.

They closed down Oregon and Washington state this afternoon. Shelter in place fines and penalties to be imposed for violations.

On the upside, I've been finishing up a lot of unfinished projects.

I think that Tony's (brumosRSR) approach is a good one. Let's see how the world looks in a month's time and go from there, because, as he points out, that would still be a month before the planned due date.

Gentlemen, my apologies as I was late getting a note off to track hosts, So I am waiting for feedback regarding a start date and if hosts may or may not be comfortable with forming groups to race or if it may be allowed. Currently, with us being a month and 2 days away from car arrivals to me, I'm comfortable with still receiving cars the week of the 24th. I can then tech, take pictures and do a mild shakedown of cars on my small Scalextric track over the Holiday. A shakedown was not originally in the plans but it may provide a little random excitement and buy time prior to our actual start. I will make a determination prior to the 1st of May whether or not to actually receive cars as we all keep an eye on the state of the world around our little hobby.

Mandatory stay-at-home orders in North Carolina have been extended another few weeks and we do not seem to have hit a leveling off point yet. It may be a good idea to postpone the proxy another month and revisit it again then.

I'm pretty sure my car will not go around on a scalextric track with a wood guild on it since I also have such a track. just being digtal....

Good to know I will simply tech and pack

As i am unable to cross the border and ship my car from WA, i will have to ship my car earlier than usual to make the due date. Would it perhaps be possible to make a decision on a due date by April 30th. or latest May 7th? I doubt my car would be suited to running on plastic and I would prefer that it does not end up sitting for an extended time prior to the race start.

I would suggest we work backwards from an actual and confirmed race 1 run date to determine the revised due date for the cars.

I've received response from 6 of the track host everyone who has reported back is comfortable with the schedule. If possible COVID Dependent, cars would arrive here May 24th, I will tech and pack and have them delivered to the 1st host (WITHOUT A SHAKEDOWN) That should buy us until May 7th to determine if cars should be shipped or not. If we must postpone, we will then start with the next host in line to keep things moving and reset the date for the 1st host, 2nd host etc. We also may have several tracks in the same location or city that I will see if we can use to substitute if needed so we can get in 10 races.

hope I can get a shack down on the club track before I ship. I only got to make few laps at our last club race before all these covid19 shut down happen. looking at the club race events I seeing every thing cancelled till June. So looks like I'm going in with a rookie car set up and hope I got it some what right.......

Mine is ready to go, I should probably get it on it's way early next week, it may take a little longer to get there with this bug floating around

It would be nice if I had a test track, but I don't. But I am as ready as ever to see if one car can break the Porsche 914 stranglehold on this race!
Why doesn't my car run like that?

Agreed! A test track would be nice. Damn you, Covid-19.

On the bright side, my son and I have been working on converting our Carrera digital track to analog this week. Should be done by Monday. It seems testing on plastic track will have to do. Got to be better than no testing at all.

I don't have access to anything but my scalextric track, which I assume is not a good thing to test on. Recently 2-3
times a year, I get a chance to run on a large commercial track for about an hour when I'm out of town for work. So my 914 will run as it is as my work meeting will be virtual under our current circumstances. I think you guys will be fine as you're great builders.

Yeah like me you are running on plastic but you still build a quality car. Trying to catch up.
