  • New GVSCC club track

I think most of you know that our group in Vancouver suffered a severe setback when our long time leader Luf upped and moved to Vancouver Island. Fortunately we are blessed with a number of track builders that learned from the best, so when one of our members offered up some permanent space at his workplace they could step up and build us our first non-home club track. There are still some finishing touches to be added and the custom timing system de-bugged but we had our first "rubbering in" session today. Some photographs from the event:

Roger, the builder-in-chief and instigator of the whole endeavour on the left: thanks Roger, this is AWESOME!!!!!

Ron (second from the left with the glasses) is the property owner that is generously donating the space:

Lots of fast, sweeping sections but also a VERY technical bit:

More info to follow as matters progress. This is a bit too late for the GT3 proxy as the track is brand new and still slippery and the timing systems needs some refinement but the next proxy will likely be held here.

    From a very grateful Alwyn!

        Hello Alwyn,

Great looking layout - thank you for sharing. I really like the "flow" of this track design - kudos to Roger and everyone who helped with the build.

Thanks Steve. We are really very fortunate with the track builders and owners we have around here. All of the local tracks were inspired by Luf's masterclass of track building and he often lent a hand in the design. This was a first "post Luf" track but his influence lives on. All credit to Roger for the design from concept to completion. What I like is the fact that it IS so flowing but then there are these tight sections and a couple of ever so slight changes of direction that keeps you on your toes!

              Love it!!!

                  Two questions:

                  How deep is the slot?

The track design has an inner loop, so the outer lane is a lot longer than the inner, was this a conscious decision?

Really nice design and flow, though!

Roger told me that the longest lane is 90ft and the shortest is 78ft. As Rob (CGYRacers explained in his other post) most (all?) of the tracks here are build with 3/8" MDF (since most MDF are actually imported from China is comes as a 10mm) - I know slot depth in Vancouver, Kelowna and Edmonton is approximately 1/4" or 6.4mm - prepare your proxy cars accordingly! (for my track the biggest reason for using 3/8" was saving weight - as my track get's hoisted to the ceiling.

Same as all the other tracks here so too shallow for some.

Not a conscious decision but not a concern for our two forms of racing (computer calculated and controlled bracket and distance over all lanes)

Spectacular track. Love the downhill esses, the elevation changes really add to a track. Glad to see you guys having another great club space!

And I will throw my .02 (USD) in.....if anyone gets to the area, make a visit. This is a great bunch of guys who will make you very welcome indeed.
