  • Willys /Predator Mod Coupe

I built another Predator motored mod.....Used another "super" light brass rod chassis.
It's geared 10/25 with Protrack wheels, PG rear tires (I used an XPG for the left rear)
I figured the light car could work with this compound..Didn't want to try a right side
just in case it would want to tuck the soft tire in the corners. I used quite a bit of
1/32 rod this time & very little 3/64. My goal was a 60 gram finished car.
..................Came close: it comes in at 71 grams....................
(I'm going to try just one more time for 60 grams)

I used a Willys body that I Dremeled to within an inch of it's life. Moved the rear wheel opening
forward a bit & shortened the deck. Cut out everything I could.
I used balsa wood blocks for body mounts, Parma foams in front, Styrene headers & roll bars
plus brass tube axles filled with an epoxied round toothpicks.
Spent 2 days getting the body perfect & smooth..........Then boogered up the paint job.
OH well......Maybe 3 more coats of floor polish will fix it up.
I hope Harry has a Labor Day shootout so I can test it on the BIG track.
    Hope we're not all dead by then from C O V I D.

Nice build skills!! I'm wondering... what do the parts weight - motor, guide with wiring and braids, wheels and tires, axles and gears? How much out of the 60g is left for actual frame and body?

All the weight is in the tires

That's very nice. Your "boogered" paint looks nicer than my best attempts. How does that gearing work? I would guess it accelerates quick due to the weight but doesn't top out so quick, no?

Didn't know the torque rating...So bigger pinion increases torque....taller ratio increases top end speed....
                  Seems to work well........Brew

Love the Willys! I tested some Predator motors and I like them a lot they were all very strong. I hope the proxies will be incorporating them...
