  • Digital/Analog compatibility

    Greetings everyone,

New to the hobby and I have a question/s about car/track compatibility.

In regards to Carrera and Scalextric, what cars work on what? For example, will my scalextric analog cars worth on a carerra digital track? I understand I will not be able to use lane changers if there is no chip installed. However, can they still run?

    Any insight is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you :-)

Hey Dad, NO analog cars will work on a Carrera digital track, even Carreras. You need to add either custom switches or by a Tek-Slots analog digital box. Expensive but it works.

Thanks Dave. I just learned about the Tek-Slots box last night while browsing youtube. I sent a message to the builder as I think that it is a great solution.

The Carrera analog cars will work on a digital layout, put it on the track and it will immediately go in reverse at about a million miles an hour.
The Scalextric DPR/digital plug ready cars will run on a Carrera digital track with a Carson chip installed or a Carrera digital chip installed, a few more chips out there too. The Carson chip is plug and play, the Carrera chip and others take some effort, just need good soldering skills and a basic understanding of electronics, otherwise not rocket science, I can even do it.
I just do digital or convert to it now, did analog since '65 and it gets real boring for the grandkids, now I like gadgets and lights.

Agreed, only downside of the Carson chip is that the cars lights only light while the car is in motion (throttle applied) unlike the Carrera chip and some others that the lights are on even when cars not moving and if running digital can be remotely turned on/off.

Great info Allan, tyvm. This is good to know since I have a scalextric analog car that was a gift and I had bought two for my son. I'm happy to hear that they can still be used if we choose to go with Carrera digital track. We just have a small scalextric kit that I got for last Christmas to see if my son would like it or not. As we all know, he loves it!!

If you have the room, go with the far superior Carrera track over Scalextric, better lane spacing, stainless steel rails, wider aprons, wired and wireless controller options factory and aftermarket...I much prefer the trigger style aftermarket and the TruSpeed wired is the controller that me and racing buddies prefer:
