  • RMR Winter 2020 Round 2 – Tomadega Group 5 Enduro

Gents, the first round went off pretty well, so we’re going try it again this time with Sideways Group 5’s!

Back at the scene of the crime - where we kicked off the season at Thomas's Tomadega....recall way back in those sunnier and warmer days? Well hopefully we get a winter reprieve Sunday :O)

As in round 1, we’ll run 6 min heats, and have each driver rotate through the lanes two times.

We’ll aim for teams again, depending on numbers and probably with a twist to make things interesting.

Be there or be square ;O)

That was a wonderful race. Special thanks to David for holding up our team. Your 320 BMW was awesome.

No problem, Fozzy. I'm glad I could help out.

Group 5 came and went as fast as you'd think a Group 5 should be.

We tried 2 man teams again, balanced on previous history at Tomadega and Group 5 class performance. With 7 racers, yours truly was the odd man out - playing the role of moving chicane, running laps and giving the good people at Vizene some extra business ;O)

Teams were, based on available racer rankings:
        1 - Shadow (1) and Fozzy Bear (6), sporting Shadow's 320 and Fozzy's new black magic M1
2 - Badger (3) and No Hands (4), rolling out the Black Mampe Capri and No Hands Banzai Bandit
        3 - T2.0 (2) and the AA-Ron 3000 (5) - featuring the Blue long tailed whale of a 512BB and the little Jager Bomb 935K2

The track started off a little green, but after a little warm up and some controller maintenance it was off to the races.

We ran 6 min heats again, and with just enough marshals, all the drivers treating them accordingly with very few deslots. Fozzy started the day off as his usually does, with a lot of "narrated" driver regaling of stories and analogies back to his fast food roots and oh yeah, homemade hooch!

Speaking of moonshine, two of RMR's royalty and long time drivers the The Badger and the (No Hands) Bandit decided they would team up again to go eastbound and down, outrunning the locals all the way across state line until they saw what was waiting for them

Meanwhile Fozzy lamented about being the soggy middle bun between a couple of Jagers...somewhere Fozzy's support group cheered him on

The racing was tight, with the Shadow carrying his weight plus a few extra buns. The Boogity Boys did their best until the Capri slide it's gear and the Banzai Bandit was scrambled to limit the damage. AA-RON 3000 did his best to mess with Fozzy while local trackman T2.0 was dreaming about his next beverage and whether or not corn chips were a wise pairing.

Heat results were close, with Blue being favored followed strangely by Black which had been previously condemned by all and subject to an exorcism after the last race here in Sept. Middle lane was all but forgotten like any middle child and suffered the fate of being the last productive lane. I think a first for any of the club tracks?

So we basically put a full season of sprint racing (36 min) on these cars yesterday, two for my 320 (72 min). Cars held up pretty good overall in fact despite tire wear, the track grip really started to come into its own in the latter stages....and as usual, consistency played its card and seemed to be the determining factor.

To top off the day, we "raffled" off the purdy race calendar from the famous DrVanksi which was won by the Badger - a nice consolation for his Fix Or Repair Daily Capri troubles.
