  • Happy Hendrix Day

My all time favorite guitarist and musician, Jimi Hendrix, was born on November 27th. I still listen to more Hendrix music than just about any other performer. It's a toss up between his version of the national anthem and Red House as to which is my favorite.

I was a senior in high school when Hendrix died, so I never got to see him perform. My favorite Hendrix memory actually happened in the 80's when I was coaching varsity football at the same school I attended and one of my linemen was called away during pregame warmups. Minutes later he was on the roof of the field house where big amplifiers had been set up and he played a great Hendrix style rendition of the national anthem just before kickoff.

Too bad Hendrix died so young, but his music lives on.

The man, the legend, our guitar hero. I still look at the album sized program from that show in Madison Square Garden, my first real rock concert.
Thanks for keeping the fire burning. -- Ernie
