  • Those New Year Resolutions!

Yes, that time of year! This year is different...I mean it. I am going to accomplish this. It just takes willpower.

With that and the morale support of my family and all of you...I know I can see this through.

    I'll start things off:

    1. I will do my best to buy more slot cars.

    2. At least get 10 if not 15 new model kits. Take photos of them and then tuck them away in The Abyss never to be seen for at least 2 years.

    3. Start 5, perhaps even 10 NEW projects that I will not finish.

    4. Leave several of those unfinished projects on my bench until they have at least .050 of dust on them.

    5. Invest in at least one more screwdriver set. 15 is not nearly enough.

    6. Stock up on spray paint. 10 cans minimum. I have lots of projects.

    7. Get another airbrush system so I can stop using spray cans. The first 4 rusted shut before I could ever use them.

    8. Enter at least 2 Proxies and come in dead last or be DQ'ed.

    9. EAT MORE BURGERS! A happy person starts from the inside.

    10. Take more photos and videos of food on my grill.

Ok...there we go! NOW WHO IS WITH ME?

I resolve to stack more stuff under my track so visitors can trip over when they come to race.

I resolve to print at least 15 more bodies before I paint another.

I resolve to print all of the chassis I need for the extra 15 bodies before I finish the car sitting on my bench.

I resolve to enter a proxy and try not to get DQ'd at Concours.

I resolve to buy more stuff, and put it with the other stuff so in 3 years I can say "Hey, I forgot I had 2-3 of those already" (Screwdrivers not included).

Okay, these are things I really need to put some effort to:

            1) clean up my mancave slot car palace. It's so cluttered now that despite having 2 work benches I can't work on my cars and am thinking of using the kitchen table for new builds.

            2) start working on the road course scenery. Repaint with darker asphalt color and tape Inside lane. Open areas need to be filled in so cars can't fall in them and hit the floor. Then a decent pit area, backdrop, grass, scrubs, trees, track signs and billboards.

            3) test drive ALL my working cars and re-qualify the ones on racing rosters.

Okay, here's an update on my 2020 resolutions:

              1) clean up my mancave slot car palace. It's so cluttered now that despite having 2 work benches I can't work on my cars and am thinking of using the kitchen table for new builds.

Nope, nothing accomplished for this yet. The recliner is uncluttered so all is well.

              2) start working on the road course scenery. Repaint with darker asphalt color and tape Inside lane. Open areas need to be filled in so cars can't fall in them and hit the floor. Then a decent pit area, backdrop, grass, scrubs, trees, track signs and billboards.

Nope, nothing accomplished here either. But I am still cogitating on it.

              3) test drive ALL my working cars and re-qualify the ones on racing rosters.

YES! 23 of my 96 road course cars have been test driven and time trialed. All my World Sortscar Championship Series cars are done and just started with Can-Am. These will take a few weeks then on to Trans Am.

Not bad considering it's only been a week since the NFL season ended.

Update - all of my Can-Am cars have been run and just got started on Trans Am cars. All my road course cars will have been run and timed by the end of the week.

It's good to be reminded how much fun to drive some of my cars are that haven't been raced in months. Totally forgot how fast a few on my Monogram McLarens and Lola T70's are, and the 2 HSRR McLarens are much better performers than they might seem.

I've now driven and time trialed 70 of my road course cars! Just finished with 20 of my better Trans Am cars, all Pioneer or Scalextric replicas of actual cars from the golden era from '66 - '73. Tremendous fun to take Gurney, Revson, Donohue's cars out on the track and open 'em up.

If ya got 'em, race 'em! No shelf queens here. Glad I'm keeping this resolution.
