Vintage Racing Thompson Speedway, CT [ More pics added 6/24]
Took my dad down to Thompson to watch some vintage racing. Nice to be back! I am not a pro photographer, but they came out pretty good for a cell phone! figured I would try it out. Enjoy! More pictures coming. I will update.
My first thought was a Devin but I’m not an authority on them.
I was introduced to these specials at the Weathertech/Brian Redman race at Road America. All are very interesting, along with other front engine cars like Scarabs and Listers.
Thanks for those pictures.
Maybe not an Echidna, but at least very similar. Three Echidnas were built circa 1958 and had Chevy engines. All of the pictures of Echidnas that I could find showed cars with exposed side pipes. Possibly #39 is another special that used a Devin body.
I have been meaning to get to Thompson for one of those events. I used to go there often in the '60s to watch the modifieds, but I also went to a SCCA race when the road course was separate from the oval. I got to one more sports car race in 1970 for the SCCA nationals. By that time the oval and the road course had been combined, cars taking a wide line as they entered the oval could come airborne.
Nice pics. It helps to have the soft light of a cloudy day when taking pics at the track. The overcast skies are neutral in color keep contrast in line with the latitude of digital sensors (and film).

Bill Devin never built cars, he did a fiberglass re-pop of a borrowed Ermini body and sold lots of those. I expect that many of those bodies went to people who never completed their cars. Someone looking for a nice body might be able to locate an unused one in a barn someplace.
