    Shapeways Mail Call!

Time for me to start building.

Even though I modeled these buggers from scratch, they were filling my screen as I worked... I was not prepared for just how slim this Lotus is. It makes my old Tyco S Indy look like a minivan. Maybe I should repaint it to look like the Goodyear blimp!

Holy Shine-olie Batman... that bugger is small!

And then there is this old gal... some say it floats. Some say it flies. I dunno, but I feel like breaking out into song!

Time to go find some silicone O-Rings for those wagon wheels!

First prime through color coats. My tape job on the yellow stripe messed up the edge, but I'm feeling too lazy to strip it down and start over. I think I'll just add a black transition line, then decals and clear coat so I can get her on the track soon!

Just printed a new version of the vintage F1 body in the high-def tough resin. The dropouts are holding up. And I tweaked the transmission box to fit around the crown gear more easily. Time to build it up with some better looking wheels than this Mega G set up.

WOW!! Couldn't believe that this was HO scale. Amazingly well done. I can't recall seeing a "snake" on the starboard side though - I guess I will have to re-watch the movie.

Thanks Peter! Yes, the serpent horn is on her Starboard.

I don't ever recall seeing that before. I WILL have to re-watch the movie this weekend and look for it.

Taking a short mental break from the Lola T90 to make progress on a 1/64 replica of my 1975 Triumph Spitfire 1500. Will probably be finished as another chassisless unibody design given how small this car is real life.

                  That is great!

Would love to see a step by step or tutorial kind of thing on that Spit - done in Blender I guess . . .

Thanks! I was toying with the idea of doing some in-depth blender tutorials. I've been doing this for over ten years now. So could put together something specifically for modeling and printing slot car bodies. But then again, this has been a family business for my teenage boys selling the printed bodies we make. I'd have to make sure they're comfortable with doing something that could potentially cut into their sales.

Meanwhile, here's the front end with bumper, grill, and spoiler completed.

Nothing from nothing , but that model looks like it has the integrity and detail for 1/32. You are doing a great job on this, and you have been doing great stuff for a long time now. Your HO builds even inspired me to make a little can-motored HO scale 3D printed "Modified". I should do a post about it one day (once I refine it a bit).

So even though people don't always say it or post it here - good posts go out there into the 'hobby-space' and can inspire a lot of folks - thanks!

My brother had a 70s bigger bumper Spitfire 1500 back in the 70s. It was a fun car to drive - but really small. Like so many things back then, I miss it.

I think this Spitfire could be a very popular slot car shell - especially in 1/32. It is one of the quintessential little english sport cars or the 60s-70s.

There are plenty of tutorials online about making body shells, and 3d modeling for those that are inclined and committed to the effort in trying it for themselves. And I absolutely understand about protecting your cool creations. But yeah make a little 1/32 body kit for the Spitfire, I don't think you would have to add much detail.

They are a blast to drive! I plan on making a few in 1/64 and 1/32. A buddy who is helping me work on my 1:1 Spitfire is also into 1/32. So he'll be able to paint one up to look like the one he used to race autocross events in.

I plan on painting mine Topaz Orange to match the one in my garage.

More progress on the Spitfire... mostly finished up on the main body details. Moving on to the windscreen & top options, Then interior and final panel & trim lines.
