  • - The Moonshine Runner -

    Another project

I saw a 3D file for this old 1952 GMC 9300 pickup and had to print it...but it needed modifying first...

Drop in a blown V8 and it was better but then had an idea...a quick search on a 3D file website and I had the bits to make it even more interesting and unique. In the back there's going to be a moonshine still and a rack of moonshine jugs.

    - The Moonshine Runner -

It needs tidying and painting, it's just come off the printer this evening.
I've spent a 'few' hours on this and love it.

...those moonshine jugs are only 6.6mm in diameter, I'm chuffed and surprised the tiny handles printed.

Resin prints always feel a little tacky until left for 12 hours so this morning went outside in the sun and gave it a coat of U-Pol black etch primer and it's really brought out the detail.

I need to get some copper paint, some wood colour and quite like the idea of a rust bucket finish for the body.

Chassis will be a new design I've been mulling over, much more simple than the ones I've made of late, maybe even an anglewinder (and I don't race anything with AW config but why the heck not). Chassis like the Thunderslot and Nonnoslot work great and are much simpler than mine.

That looks like it will be a cool looking build. Can't wait to see it done.

In 1970, a guy in Memphis dropped in a small block with a Judson aircraft supercharger under the hood of a '53 Chevy truck. He left it with surface rust, faded paint, and rusty chrome. Completely street legal, and amazingly, fairly quiet.

Oh that is way cool! Something like that would also be a riot to enter in the upcoming crap car (24 of Lemons) proxy!

(With the smoothness / quality these new resin printers are putting out, you guys are going to push me to get one of these yet!)

This is printed at 0.04mm layers but my printer can go down to 0.01mm (10 microns). This took 5 hours so you're looking at the best part of a day at 10 microns and I doubt it would be any better.

Appreciate the added info! Definitely makes for a smooth print!

That is really sweet! Did you add the engine and headers?

Yes, I had two options one with headers the other without, when I offered it up into the bonnet (hood) area I loved how it looked with the headers poking out.

That actually is really a hoot! The resolution and interpolation of the resin printers is superior. Until there is true 3D slicing, there is no comparison.

Durability is the question but this is Siraya Fast (80%) + Siraya Tenacious (20%) and has a feel of Elegoo ABS-like but with more 'give'. The supports would make great aerials as I realised after throwing them in the bin and quickly recovered again.

Nice print, That will be a fun project

Re Resin. I find about 10-20% Tenacious helps and is fine for Slot bodies. For Chassis and guides I have yet to find a resin with good durabilty and strength. For using at home where a cracked chassis is easily replaced resin is fine. I worked on a sidewinder design to try an eliminate weak points and cracking . I have something now that works but it is a compromise because of the brittleness of the resin and is thick in places I would sooner it not.

I prefer FDM printed chassis, resin can shrink and warp long after its finished printing. My chassis have been made with CF-PETG fir a few months now.

An update, needs a driver, goes nicely with a 'slow' Ninco 14k short can.

chappyman66 Thanks, I've never done any kind of detail work or painting before now this is my favourite slot vehicle by far.

TuscoTodd Yes I'm really pleased with it too

Akronmark It may be slow but it's great to drive round and looks great in motion too.

I have a driver with a Doberman to go inside. I originally had a naked chainsaw wielding nutter in the passenger seat but decided against that one

Chassis was a brand new design for me and has been used inline for much smaller cars also. The 3 pivots have been simplified this weekend to reduce parts, the pod held in place from above with soft silicone washers under the screws.
