  • Large diameter wheels for Trucks?

    Hi guys,
Im looking for some large diameter wheels, aluminium preferably. This is for 1/24 scale. Im wanting to build Richard Petty's Hauler in 1970 which was a LNT1000 Dodge truck with a box on the back & basic dual axle trailer. I have all the parts but the wheels have me stumped. Im guessing the wheels will be about 22mm diameter & able to accept an insert. Im not to worried about the tyres as I have some model kit tires I can cast in Urethane. Anything in the RC world may fit? Im out of ideas! Help please!

I would like to build this as a slot car for something different. I highly doubt Ill drive it much but will be a fun project. If you could lead me in the right direction I would be very grateful. A bit of a crazy idea maybe with will be super cool! Ive included some photos of what I want to build & the kit wheel & tire with a H&R wheel.

Have a look at Pattos he has a good range of 1/8 axle rims and tyres both threaded and hex, I brought these for a R model Mack project. There a bit than what you are after at 18.5x 13 mm rim and with the old Tyers ihd laying around are 31x14mm but I'm sure you'll find what you need!

Years ago I inadvertently ordered some metal wheels with tires from Professor Motor that turned out to be 1/24 scale. I had no use for them and found 3 pair in a parts bin. The part # is no longer valid for this item at PM.

Do you think these might work for you?

Thanks but I’m sure I’ve found what I need but I’ll let you know if I get stuck

I posted on your Facebook post that I have them by Sideways for Fly trucks as a replacement. The same tires also fit on them.

I am interested as well -

Are the Fly tucks 1/24 - what size diameter is the wheel hub?

Looks like something around 7/8” is needed - there are probably wheels that size from the vintage world?

Fly trucks are 1/32,........................and the aftermarket aluminum wheels for them (from NSR) are 17mm,.....a bit small in my opinion.

Pendle Slot have their own range of wheels which would be much better for a 1/24 truck.......19 and 21 mm. These are for 3/32 axles.

Professor motor have several different 1/24 wheels that would work (using the cut down kit wheels for inserts).......theres are for 1/8 5/40 threaded axles (axles and gears are readily available)

mopargreg gets first dibs since this post inspired me to go looking for the Professor Motor wheels and tires. If he or anyone else on HRW has a valid need for them to complete a build they can have them for free. Not looking to give them away so they can be put up for sale, so tell me what project you have in mind.

Can't you use wheels from 1/24 scale wheels from H&R and either reverse them or put spacers between the two of them for effect ?

Hi guys, Thanks everyone for the great comments. It looks like I have come up with the solution. David - Dangermouse pointed me in the right direction to Plaifit wheels. They are a similar style to H&R wheels but they have a large range of different sizes in both diameter & width. One of them being a perfect size.

I’ve just modified the truck kits tires & they are ready to cast in Urethane for slotcar use. These tyres are HUGE compared to what I’m used to. Once I know these tires I’m making will work with the wheels I’ve chosen I’ll share it to the forum.

            Thanks again
            Greg

Please post up when you get the wheel tire combination together.

I am interested in putting together some heavier duty truck(s) myself.
