  • Scalextric Lotus Super 7 - re-chassis

Had good results re-chassising a number of Scalextric Caterhams. When a rough, used Super 7 (identical to the Caterham) came into my possession recently, I had a new project.

Started off glueing the bonnet to the clamshell chassis and gutting it...

    Got the chassis rolling with,

    - Piranha 18K FF050 slimline motor
    - Slot It 9t pinion and 27t crown gears
    - Scalextric Lotus Super 7 wheel/tire set at the front
    - Mitoos Classic 16,5 x 6 rims with Paul Gage urethane tires out back

Chassis sits a bit higher than my Caterhams due to the larger diameter rims/tires, but the stance worked out.

Reworked the stock driver figure and replaced Scalextric's pygmy-sized driver's head with my resin swiveling head. Paint detailed along with other features using Tamiya bottle acrylic.

Performance is much improved from stock, though less secure around the corners than the Caterham conversions.

No disappointment whatsoever. Another good outcome.

I need to do this with my Caterham. It has to work better than my ham-fisted attempt.

Why doesn't my car run like that?
