  • Ferrari 312P Spyder build 2

Build 1 turned out really well...

...so I'm encouraged to see if I can duplicate the modelling and performance.

Cast the Spyder body for slosh copies as well as for the engine intake scoop and 3D printed Cromadora wheel inserts.

Have an assembled adjust-o-wheelbase FF050 motor hybrid chassis in the wings so this won't take long to get on the track.

    Stay tuned.

Build 1 has an inline motor layout so making a switch to a sidewinder.

      My usual build consisting of,

.055" piano wire for main rails and front axle uprights
.064" brass strip for guide tongue and cross members
1/8" brass tube for front axle holder

Usually use a 5/32" brass tube for the guide post but trying a beautifully machined Samson one. FF050 slimline motor pod's one of my clubmate's 3DRon resin ones that accepts 3/32" x 3/16" oilites.

After trimming flash, got the slosh cast body down to a lightweight 8 grams. Happy with that.

As always, great build. This is one of my favorite cars...loved the first one.

'Like' doesn't do this justice. Super cool build.

Chassis's rolling. Power's my usual FF050 slimline for small car builds, a Scalextric Sport 25K green can. Gear ratio's 3.6:1 gear from a Slot It10t, 6.5mm pinion in a sleeve with a MB Slot 36t, 19mm spur gear. Front wheels/tires are Slot It 15 x 8 plastic rims with Slot It silicone tires and CB Design 15 x 10 inserts rims on PG urethane tires at the back. Went with a Scale Auto guide as the post diameter fit the Samson holder (the larger of the two sizes).

Went with a tri-post body set up as I've been doing lately.

Stance isn't really low like I usually do as I wanted to make sure there wasn't any tire rub/interference on the body.

Sprayed on some Tamiya Fine White primer in preparation for Tamiya TS-16 Yellow. My other 312Ps are red so I thought I'd do some color variety following Scalextric's Ferrari 330 releases.

The wheel inserts were painted in Vallejo Sky Blue. My understanding is that race cars use to be painted in country of origin colors. I think yellow and blue was a Belgium team color combo.

The 8 g body weight is crazy! And chassis/drivetrain workmanship sets an example as usual!

                        Done!

Final finish, paint detailing and decaling covered with Tamiya semi-gloss clear.

Interior detail completed with the installation of a black painted rollbar of 1/16" piano wire and a matte black interior tray of .015" styrene sheet supporting a half driver figure.

Good outcome on the modelling and performance front.
