  • 70' Mercury Cyclone Sportsman build

I started this project at the beginning of the week. I am building it for a fellow slotter, who picked out the body on ebay.

It is a custom done styrene kit, that for a home job is actually really well done. That said, there was still a lot more work to be done on the body than the Monogram I just did. It does come with a cool slot-car specific interior and many grill and spoiler options.

I built up a simple flexi-pan chassis for the car. With JK D3 motor bracket this time.

It is starting to come together. I got most of the body assembled last night. Hopefully I can get it mounted and start working on interior tonight!

The guy who made that body is one of our HRW guys. Great job, ain't it? He's working on some more hard-to-find bodies, too.

Yes I was impressed with it for a low production kit! Pretty lightweight as well and having all the different grill and spoiler options is cool!

Proxie Ken had made mention that he was going to try and made other bodies as well . Has anyone heard if that is still ongoing , or has he stopped because of the ongoing pandemic situation ? Was looking forward to the other cars he was thinking of making .

Every year at the car show I think to myself "I wish one of the manufacturers of slot cars would make a Cyclone". It is (IMO) the best looking car there...and there are hundreds.

Nice job on the build - it looks awesome.

It is Proxie Ken - he has the kits listed both on his web site and on eBay - here is a link to his website:

And to them listed on eBay (there are some added pictures of some of the cars built up in the listing):

I built 3 of these Proxie Cyclones last summer for my Grand National-NASCAR series. These are all mounted on Pioneer Dodge Charger chassis which Ken Proxie sold on his website and the bodies are sized to fit. Body mounts are included on the black sprue with the body. The decals on the #21 (David Pearson) and #24 (Cecil 'Flash' Gordon) came with the bodies. I bought decals for the red & blue car to make it into the #48 Pop Kola car driven by James Hylton, but haven't applied them yet.

I still have one body and chassis to do but haven't decided which classic car to replicate. If I had decals for Darrell Waltrip's Terminal Transport Cyclone that would be my choice.

Thanks for posting this. I tried to order one through EBay but can’t ship to Canada through the complex Global shipping EBay system. I will order through the seller’s personal website instead.
