  • Fly Porsche 917 - 10 - re-chassied with my adjust-o-wheelbase

Had this battered Fly Porsche 917 - 10 with missing parts sitting around and thought this was an ideal candidate for a re-chassis build.

Stock chassis's a clamshell one, so cut off the sills and glued and reinforce epoxied to the upper body.

Cut and prepped parts for my usual adjust-o-wheelbase chassis to accept a 3D printed FF050 motor pod.

3/32" round brass tube - main rails and front axle supports
.062" piano wire - sliders for guide/front axle tongue
.064" x 3/4" brass strip - guide tongue and crossmembers
5/32" brass tube drilled out with 9/64" bit - guide post

Using the stock front plastic rims and turning down rears into inserts for aluminum rims.

Will be a runner for our club's Can Am class.

Nice subject.....I plan something similar for my Matchbox kit. My Fly isn't too horrible actually, even as a clamshell. It's a decent model and I am sure your will be much quicker when done.
    Are you using 11/34?

Going to be running on a road course with a 18 foot straightaway, banked corner and a bunch of switchbacks, so I was thinking of setting up the FF050 slimline motor (25k rpm) build in an inline layout with a 3.75:1 gear ratio (8t pinion, 30t crown). Starting with this and can always make adjustments.

I've got other stock Fly 917 - 10s in perfect condition but didn't feel too attached to this one as it was damaged and missing a bunch of body parts.

Chassis's soldered up with the motor pod in place.

Chassis's rolling. Going with my favourite rear wheel/tire set up, Slot It F1 rims with urethane copies of the Fly March F1 tires. Guide's my go-to, Sloting Plus Universal, 7mm.

Stance is good. Looks like side pans that will be added with be at least flush with the body's sills.

Should be running soon for a test run.

Scalextric Sport FF050, 25K-powered with an MB Slot 8t steel pinion on a sleeve with a Slot It 27t crown gear for a 3.375:1 ratio. Runs smooth with good acceleration on my little test track. Will be running on a big track with a long straight so waiting for my 30t crown gears soon to arrive in the mail.

Body's tri-post mounted and driver tray installed.
