  • Hmm...interesting

Slot.it Porsches with this neat guide mount that allows you to carry speed into a corner, understeer as the car pushes wide and then oversteer out of the corner as power is applied. Great fun to drive and probably quicker on a small twisty circuit than the stock chassis.

We ought to be able to design an equivalent to that mount. It looks like real dynamite. For material, I'm thinking of that odd vinyl that cheap tub surrounds are made of. I'll look around for a source. If it works, we can divvy up one of those huge sheets of the stuff all over HRW, like the setup blocks a few years ago made out of Corian scraps. Somebody will have a CNC mill or router. If not, a simple mini bandsaw or fretsaw will make short work of this. Alternatively, we have people who can cast urethane in stiffer compounds.

I made up something similar as a 3d print with a flexible resin. Basically it is the Pipslot setup. It didn't seem to cut better times on an oval - but I didn't work at it much - there may be something there, there.

      This is the pipslot:

I have seen something like that before. Just can't remember where. Always wondered how it would work.

Yes Pipslot Pipchassis has been doing it for awhile and it hasn't taken off across the hobby - but it may be worthwhile and it seems easy enough to incorporate.

I was thinking of trying it on a traditional scratch built, using piano wire - I am sure crazier things have been tried.

Interesting indeed. More ways to corner than one. Physics and engineering....at scale, my favorite stuff

I wonder if the issue with this guide is that you need to destroy a good chassis to try it?

I bought a couple of those a few years ago. Forgot all about 'em. Now I'll have to dig them up and give one a try.

Several of the guys in the BSCRA have been trying this design (in wire) for a few years now on scratchbuilt wire/steel chassis,.........on this side of the pond Dennis (Gascarnut) has done quite a few on his scratchhbuilt cars.............I personally have not seen any advantage, but, if Dennis chimes in, I am sure he will relay his thoughts.

                  Cheers

I never preferred them but its all driver's choice.

If I am not mistaken you can get them from Shapeways , I think it is a 3D site . I got a 1/24 scale chassis off of them .
