Take a picture Tuesday

When fully retired time passes differently. Days of the week barely matter anymore, so let's just say it's still Tuesday for convenience.

I've been time trialing most of my cars, recently recorded lap times for 24 Can Am cars.

As can be seen, I welcome all makes of cars into my Can Am series. Most fun to drive for 100+ laps are in group 2 - #7 HSRR McLaren M8D, #6 Carrera Porsche 917/30, and #59 Fly Porsche 917/10. Overall fastest on Shelby-Hendrix Speedway - Revell-Monogram Lola T70. Imagine that!

That does remind me of artwork that would look right at home on a Strombecker set box. This goes along with Dave Kennedy's perspective that manufacturers no longer sell the whole race experience like was done back in the 60's. Looking at that I instantly started imagining I was driving the red #17 about to make a pass for the lead.

I'm not a good modeler and I been putting these off for a few years. I finally got tired of looking at the pile of parts on the shelf and decided to do the best I can with them.
I think it is fitting and gluing the windows that is the hardest part for me. These things have a bunch of windows.

I looked for the UV glue at Walmart but couldn't find it. That doesn't mean they didn't have it, same for Walgreens. I ended up using clear Gorilla glue, which is clear as water. I am going to keep looking for it. Amazon has about 100 different kinds. Harry first brought htis to our attention and I will pick up some sometime.

Very nicely done. The UV cure stuff is also great for tacking things down prior to gluing them more permanently with a stronger, slower drying adhesive.

The photo from Oakland Speedway is incredible. Not just because it's a 10 lane track, it's so enormous the person looks out of scale.

I could never figure out how you raced on a 2 story track. They say guys racing on a Purple Mile spent more time walking to get their wrecked cars then they did actually racing. Imagine having to walk downstairs to put your car back on!

Very nice wall of cars. I have a lot of cars too but couldn't imagine leaving them in their cases and not actually racing every one of them. The only cars I'm keeping in their cases are 2 Revell-Monogram Greenwood Corvettes I got for parts cars at Professor Motor years ago when they were on sale for $20 each. I'm now storing cars in groups of 8-10 in scrapbook cases.

Driving tonight! I've been soldering the Slot Car Space Solutions street light kit parts for a couple of days and am taking a break for a few. I'm a lot better at soldering than I was a week ago! Lights are not up and running yet but are well on their way.

To join the two I have kept it simple: drill holes on the top of the shoulder and place the legs from the fencing inside those. That's worked pretty well. I've yet to have a car break through one of them, but I did manage to take out one of those light poles on day one

Be prepared for a lot of printing if you go this route, but I like the results I've gotten thus far!
