This was back around 1990 or so. I had just sold all my 1/24 Marx track and bought a few sets from the great Etoys Carrera sell off. I managed to get a small 1/32 Monogram oval inside the bigger track to run these old Monogram Midget racers on. Monogram is still my favorite track. I've had quite a few different Carrera tracks set up and a few different Monogram tracks. All the Monogram setups had inner and outer aprons to make it some better for 1/24 cars. I like it all, but it's hard to do it all! For the last few years racing 1/24 on the routed track has been my enjoyment. I am lucky to have 6-8 guys that like to play/race 1/24 vac body cars.
Every track needs a novelty class. At Shepherd Speedway it's the Wicked Good Racing series which is for pre-1960 cars. Here are 4 '34 Fords. On the left is a Lindberg body on a Revell-Monogram Greenwood Corvette chassis, then 2 more Lindberg bodies on Artin chassis, and on the right is a Revell body on a custom built styrene chassis. These are my 'Old Skool' bombers.
A buddy of mine at the hobby shop where I race like to patina model cars so I gave him a brand new scaley challenger to do for me and make it a rust bucket racer and this is what I got back. I can't wait to run it!
Nice job your friend did there! Wheel arches are one of the first places to start rusting out, along with the sils above the doors on the roof. A brick left half in the window would've been classic!
