  • A Few Details Added to the Scalextric James Hunt McLaren M23

I recently received the Scalextric 1976 British GP Triple Pack. The McLaren M23 is a great car, but the missing Marlboro decals leaves a lot of obvious blank panels on the car. I ordered the Pattos Marlboro set - its has numerous sizes of white and black Marlboro logos, and several of these were a perfect fit. I carefully applied the decals, and added VERY LITTLE setting solution to set the decals, but did not apply a clear coat, since I did not trust myself to get as nice a clear finish as the manufacturer! While I was at it, I added the Goodyear tire markings from Indycals. Lastly, I dismantled the body and carefully removed Mr. Hunt and painted his gloves, added silver buckles to his safety belts, added the Marlboro logo to the front of his helmet, and painted the centre spokes of the steering wheel silver. Here is a photo of my slot car compared to the real car......I am very happy with the results. I did buy this set mostly for display purposes, so its parade laps only for this car. That said, its a very fast and smooth running slot car! Enjoy the pics. RvE
PS - this is what happens during a pandemic with a lockdown, and the golf courses are closed! haha

I ordered the Camel decal set from Pattos at the same time as I ordered my Marlboro set, so here is the Williams FW14B with correct Camel decals applied. This slot car is part of the Scalextric 1992 Monaco set from several years ago that has the Senna McLaren. Its another fine scale slot car set......sans cigarette sponsor logos.....Argh.

Good job RvE ,..............not that it really matters, but, the spokes on the McLaren M23 steering wheel were matt black, and Mr Hunt invariably drove with red gloves (as per the picture in the first post).

On your next driver, you may want to consider giving his/her overalls a quick coat of matt clear.......much more realistic.

      Cheers

Thanks Chris. All valid points, I just picked different colours for the gloves and steering wheel to have some contrast. I will try the matt clear next time.
