  • Carrera 1/32

Before my hiatus from slot cars there were many Carrera slot cars that did not have a solid front axle. The front wheels were mounted on two short stub axles, is this still the case? Thanks

Yes depending on the car. The Capris in the line up for example use the stub axles as well as some others.

Thanks Gipper. Interesting you mentioned the Capris, there are some good looking Carrera Capris. If I remember correctly, their Porsche 935's were the same as well.

Very few Carrera cars have stub axles these days. Almost all have a solid front axle now and have for years.

Thank you manchvegasrace, both digital and Evolution? Reason I'm asking is a club is starting where I live. They are going with Carrera digital track. All of my 75+ cars are analog. My two Carrera cars were digital but I sold the chips long ago and scrapped the magnets. I'm trying to decide whether to chip a few of my NSR cars (if possible) or buy Carrera digital cars.

atitagain.. yes its possible to chip just about any car {check out the sticky thread on that}. What brand of cars will this new club be running?

I don't have any details as yet tracyridge. I hope they allow all types. I have 0 experience with digital but I have just two Carrera cars and most of the rest are NSR. When I had my wood track five years ago we ran all brands that were available then but ran like brands for the most part. If my memory serves me right, we ran NSR and Slot.it, together, Scalextric and Pioneer Trans Am etc etc.

I ordered a Carrera Capri from Cincyslots for $19.00 plus $5.00 shipping and no case. It has the stub axles. I want to change it to a solid axle, does anyone know what fits? Is it a standard 3/32 axle?

Thanks gsnopoint, for $19.00 I couldn't pass it up.

It's really not a matter of what fits but why it has stub axles. Carrera generally (not always) used stub axles for a reason. Most common is the axle runs right through the center of where the guide should be hence the stub axle. Most of the stub axles can be tightened up a little from their wobbly factory start.

Not in this case, there is plenty of room for a straight axle even before changing the guide which I will do at some point. Thank you for your comment.

To answer your question then yes the std 3/32 axle will fit. The problem then becomes getting the wheels off the stubs. You will need to somehow grab ahold of the stub (vice grips or something along that line) and twist the wheel off the stub. Most times it will twist off without breaking the wheel. As you probably know the Carrera axles are knurled at the ends. Then you will have to super glue the wheel to the new axle. It should hold.

Thanks, I'll follow your advice when the axles show up this week.
