Not to beat up up on China, but what other countries make 1/32 slot cars? What makes? Does anyone currently produce a car in the US? Just curious.

I'm not sure of where the parts are made, but BRM 1/24th scale Trans Am cars are hand assembled in the USA by Alan Smith and a couple family members and friends in Washington state. He is the owner of the Scale Racing Center, 132 slotcar.us store, [both n Washington] and the SCI forum.
The BRM Trans Am cars are a joint venture between him and BRM.Last edited by 32lbking; January 26, 2021, 06:06 PM.

The bodies are made in China as are the motors.

I'd rather pay a bit extra for something outside of China. Carrera, Scalextric and co. hopefully will source from somewhere else.

Two things... - for slot cars sourced (made) outside of China you will not pay a "bit" more, you will pay a lot more.
- If Carrera and Scalextric were to source from somewhere else they would soon be out of the slot car business.

In the past 13 months, in the USA, Scalextric Cars have increased from $39USD to $49USD, a 25% increase. I try to support NSR and Thunderslot with at least 2-3 cars a year as they are Italian and cost a bit more than slots the Made in the PRC. I do expect more companies moving out of the PRC to places like Philippines, Indonesia, and India where the tariffs and labor costs are now comparable and the skill levels of the employees are actually higher (better QC makes higher profit margins).

Look at the lower right hand side of the display case, it says "Made in the USA". So now you can "officially" say your chassis was made in the USA. lol

I really would rather pay more than support China end of story. I wouldn't hesitate in paying more for Carrera and Scalextric for example know into they are not made in china. The Chinese government is gving Australia a hard time at the moment and not want to buy our good so it's my right to boycott products made there as much as I can.Last edited by oldskool62; January 31, 2021, 02:45 AM.

I would doubt that any slot car is fully made from parts made outside of China or Vietnam at this point. Maybe cars are assembled in countries outside of China but where are the parts made?
As a guess also all the motors are made in China.Slot Car Nerd/Photographer/ Just a self-styled marketing guy on my back porch.

Unfortunately many of the people in the hobby would always buy cars that cost a penny less. That attitude has helped to drive most hobby shops out of business. Although there are a lot of high quality products made in China in the case of the contract companies that some of the slot companies use cost is much more important than quality. A few companies have their own factory in China, so they have more control, but a contract outfit is likely to cut corners without telling you or even making sure that a change will not impact the quality of the product.
