Hello all

Finished my 54 Chevy Tow Truck. It is a George Turner kit. Comes with a resin chassis in the kit so easy to build.

Thanks for all the kind words. Funnily enough I have had this kit sitting on the shelf for quite a while because I didn't think I could do the weathered effect I wanted to. Watched a few videos on youtube - study photos of actual trucks and then just had a go. I used Tamiya weathering powders and the usual dry brushing. Coated with a satin finish to give it a dull but not totally flat look.

Technique - I wish I had some.

Basic paint finish as per usual. I tried painting a rusty brown under the paint before applying the topcoat and then while still wet rubbing it with a brush and a stick but that didn't really work. Then I tried rubbing a bit of fine sand paper over the edges and corners and any area I wanted to weather. This worked sort of - it took the paint back to the bare resin. That was ok I then painted these bits with my rusty colour and blended them into the paint with my finger.

I then used Tamiya weathering powders and dry brushing techniques to do the rest. https://www.tamiya.com/english/produ...ring/index.htm
With the weathering powders basically I used a brush and rubbed, dabbed and brushed it on the edges or corners or flat surfaces to bring up high points and make it look dirty and weathered.
For drying brushing a little paint on the brush wipe it off and then lightly brush to hit high points and edges.

I used washes as well to drop some dark tones and create shadows. Once I was happy with it all I sealed it with Satin clear acrylic varnish. This looks the powder in place.

For the decal I rubbed the weather powder over them and used a sharp blade to scratch some 'paint' off in a couple of places.

Thanks,DM. I’ve seen the weathering powders at the hobby shop and know they are popular with the military model folks. I had never seen used so effectively on a slot car. I have a pair of 1/24 hard body trucks from the 50’s that might benefit from the look.
