I wonder why one of the big three slot car makers do not produce this car. I have resin kit in 1/32 and it really is a nice looking car. would would be good running mate for the gt40 and farrari 330P3 it also ran with those cars in the 66 le mans race but retired after only running 111 laps and did win 1000 km Nürburgring

Well..... Strombecker did a very nice, on scale model and they are widely available on auction.
Eldon did an early version (without the scoop) but not as nice as the Strombecker.

The Chaparral 2D is a favorite of mine and just the other day I was thinking the same thought about a current manufactured version. The Strombecker body is a good low cost starting point for a build. MMK made a rtr Chaparral 2D and TopSlot a body kit but today they are hard to find and if found are usually at inflated collector prices.

Here's a Strombecker 2D I raced at the 2002 Bordeaux vintage event and placed 5th with, it's almost all Strombecker with brass chassis and TC 32 motor the wheels and inserts are Revell. I wish I would have put the work into cutting out and detailing the headlights, I want to tackle this in another build and then also use clear windows instead of blue tint.

A few years back, I bought somebody's slot car junk box, and there were enough Strombecker bodies to build five cars. Two of them were the 2D, one white, one metallic red for some reason. Those cars are still out there, and not expensive at all.

I have a strombecker 2D body on a MRRC 2C chassis. Runs just like the 2C does.

                  Hey doc.....
That looks like the plan for mine.....3D chassis and SW pod....should be a great runner. I suspect with some modifications in print speed I can probably print the inserts, but the lace pattern has been a problem so far....

Why not use the Slot-it inserts for the 2E ??....
