It can be done, and in these times I think it is something that many would understand.

If you do run it solo, I'd suggest a "track call" to stop the clock with any offs. I believe there have been solo hosts in the past that let the clock run. I don't think that gives everyone a fair shake.

Yes, it can be done. If you look under the Proxy tab, some of us did virtual Proxy’s this summer when the ‘Flu’ hit. We all did them ourselves.

You can do it! One car at a time. It will be time consuming. We also have track call buttons at drivers stations, but if you don’t wreck...then who needs them,lol

I run the Forums Cup Proxy solo all the time. Since I am on Scaley Sport I run until I get a perfect run. Sometimes this means restarting a bad handling car 6 or 7 times But I get it done. Just means the cars gets a lower lap count trying to keep it on the track.

Yes it can be done. We have 2 such proxies currently running here on HRW. The Solo International Proxy (SIP) and the Solo Racing Season (SRS). You can choose to sponsor a car or host a race. Generally with 8 cars it does take a while to run it by yourself. All done with a single racer.

I'm a solo racer and participate in both of the solo proxies Dave mentioned in the previous post - SIP & SRS. Vonsirius runs the SRS and selects the cars he will race for all the participants. He generally does this tournament style where he races 2 cars against each other twice (one in each lane) and awards points for outcomes. Round after round the points add up till the final round when the top 4 cars have at it for the championship. Multiple participants conduct the SIP races, each using their own style but it's still one person racing the cars that the others have claimed for their 'team'. I race all the cars against each other using lap times to calculate the running order lap by lap and the final outcome.

I also conduct my own simulated races for up to 20 cars. I do this for Trans Am, Le Mans, and Can Am cars on the road course, and for several classes of oval cars on my other track. The cars have a starting order as in full scale racing rather than all even as in most slot car racing. Plus, as is common for local short track dirt racing I invert the starting order so the top performers are at the rear and have to work their way through the field. This keeps it interesting and I track the race progress a lap at a time.

You certainly can do solo proxies and I highly recommend it. Think through what the rules will be in advance and write them down so you are sure to apply them fairly. Will the race be for a set number of laps or for a set period of time? Will cars start the race even (all at time = zero) or with slight delays (pole car at time = zero) with following cars being on a running clock so they are spread out? How will you handle spins and crashes? If a car needs to be reset I discount the current lap time and add a slight time penalty to the next lap time. The length of the penalty depends on the severity of the incident. A spin out (deslot but still near the lane) has a small penalty and a crash (off the track) has a larger penalty. For a spin the penalty may result in a car losing a few positions and for a crash a car may end at the rear having to battle its way forward again.

All you need for solo proxy racing is a desire to have some fun and lap counter and a lap timer.

Agreed.....I participate in the SIP and SRS. It can be done. Just takes time and a timing program. Not a huge issue for most of us. Have at it!

you could run it yourself or with 2 people. if you have a computer race program like race coordinator or trackmate for lap counting.
Dale and I have run couple proxies with our 2 lane track using trackmate. 1 person qualifies all cars and then we both race them rotating the cars thru the lanes.
during qualfiction we take notes on car chacteristics and note them. during the race we have to write down the sector (part of the lap) in case of any lap count ties.
remember that proxy racing is different, getting most laps and distance out of a car, not a win.
you could try it with some of your cars before committing to real proxy.

The 'no holes barred' racing you mention is why I actually prefer to be a solo racer. Seeing adults act like 7 year olds who enjoy crashing more than anything leaves me cold. There's no realism in one car plowing through another or racing with an intent to knock a well built and driven car off the track. Proxy type racing where the focus is on getting the best out of each car corresponds to what I see as the essence of racing.

Hopefully, everyone can find a way to enjoy slot car racing as they choose.

I'm not in the top 3 or 5 positions on proxy races, and maybe some may not agree with my opinion, but some racers just have to win and with any race, there are cars faster or handle better than the car you are driving. but when the guy with the slower is trying to keep up or pass the faster car, he deslots. then he tries to make up that time by over driving the car and may deslot again. This may go on couple of times. Any deslot is time in the clock and distance lost. A deslot could set someone back almost 1 lap on some tracks.. There is a fine line to get the most of the unknown car and then to drive the car for a win.

I race both, solo and from time to time ,whith group of friends we run a "grand Prix" (usually we´re 5), both formats are interesting.

IMO if you don´t take it too seriously, in other words, racing to win but not at all cost , it´s pretty fun, on the other hand Solo Racing can be pretty interesting too, beeing it more "mental".

so my track is ridgeline race way. its a 4 lane 55 foot road course with banking and a squeeze section. i have both race coordinator and trackmate using a light bridge. just rebuilt with new paint and braid

Then you are all set to go. With your set up you could either run all cars on all the lanes (or pick 2 or 3) one at a time and track lap times, or trade off with a second driver so each car was driven equally by each driver. With 2 drivers one could be the marshal for the other and use a running clock, which would put a premium on good driving.

Calculate results by segments so you know each car's standing when starting the next segment. You're guaranteed to enjoy hosting the proxy racing.

we use trackmate and set it for Round robin with timed heats. our heats are 3 to 4minutes long.
After entering the racers data,.trackmate will set up the heats and let you know who is on deck (who is next).
it will run the race, but you have to write down the lap sector on the last lane after each heat. track mate does not track this. you will have to add it in the excel spreadsheet or notepad.
