  • My RevoSlot Ferrari 333SP

I got this a few weeks ago and initially I painted it a metallic bronze red. Then I decided to overcoat that with Tamiya clear red. I bought some decals and after applying them clear coated the car with future clear acrylic. BTW after swapping the kit rear tires for a pair of Paul Gage tires the car is really fantastic.

Not being satisfied with leaving well enough alone I removed the body from the chassis and proceeded to spray a coat of Tamiya clear gloss over the entire body which had a few dull spots. Well now I have a body that resembles a painted turtle shell. So, I will be looking for a gentle way to strip the body wasting the somewhat expensive decals. As a backup plan I decided to order a replacement body. I couldn't locate a vendor here in the USA that sells just the body but fortunately Pendleslot in the UK has them for sale at 16.99 pounds. About $25 US. So it's on the way and will probably take a month to get here.

Modlerbob, sounds like the clear you sprayed reacted badly to the Future. Have never sprayed clear over Future before, so just surmising. I’ve stripped the Future with a vinegar/water mix before. Being careful not to take the decals off too!

I spray solvent based clear over Future all of the time with no problems, but I have not used Tamiya clear. Both Testors clear and Krylon Crystal Clear have worked for me. Since solvent based clears can sometimes attack decals I coat them with Future before I apply the final clear coat. Since Future is water based I let it dry for at least a couple of hours before the solvent based clear goes on.
You can use ammonia to remove Future.

Tamiya clear is notorious for giving the vinyl roof effect over other paints. never put over testors

Always try to keep to 1 manufacturers products. This almost ensures a better end result.

Mix and match can work, but can prove disastrous.

ID:	50200 Well, first off, everything I used on that 1st body was Tamiya paint which is why I failed to understand why the Orange peel happened. Now, after getting a new body and new decals I painted the new body a solid Ferrari red, applied the decals and then clear coated the whole car. This edition ain't perfect but I think overall it looks great.

What's funny is, I started out buying the white kit to save a few bucks and get a different livery. Well by now I could have bought both the red car and the yellow car all ready to go and saved a couple of bucks. Who knew???????
