  • offset gear

a slot,it car i have came with a ,5 offset pod and the standard yellow 29t gear. i always thought an offset pod needed an offset gear. is there any reason to use an offset gear?im also switching to a 27t gear.

Not 100% needed as a normal gear wears-in over time.

With an offset of 1.0mm or more the mesh will benefit from using an offset Crown,....less than 1.0mm, and a standard Crown is perfectly fine.

I believe we are talking about a crown gear. The technical term for a crown gear designed to operate with an offset is known as a hypoid gear. A hypoid gear has the shape of its teeth modified to allow efficient operation with an offset. You can see the difference between a hypoid gear and a regular crown gear. It is fairly obvious.

Correct as it doesn't apply to SW/AW gears.

I use the offset crowns with both the Slot.It 0.75 and 1.0mm offset pods. For the 0.5mm pod, I use the standard (colored) crowns.
