Question for NSR specialists

Greetings!
I have a question regarding the suspension kits or parts extras for the tri-pod design. Any body use them? If so do they make a difference? My McLaren White car is super fast and handles super, just have the itch to go faster and stay in the groove!

If you are running on plastic track, you may find the suspension kit beneficial. On wood, I would not bother.......none of the quicker cars in the proxies/clubs that run on wood use them,.... tape across the pod/chassis plate or, silicone/foam washers between the chassis plate and the bottom of the pod lugs is preferable.

This also applies to Slot-it, Scaleauto (or any motor pod) chassis.

PS I assume you are running without magnets ???......running with magnets will essentially eliminate any benefits of the suspension kit on plastic tracks.

I agree with what Chris said. I don't see any benefit of using a suspension on a wood track. Loosen the pod screws to the chassis and run some shipping tape across the pod and chassis. That'll do the trick.

My experience with nsr spring suspension has been mixed. I’ve started using the foam donuts from Thunderslot suspension for more damping on my scalextric sport track. They seem to work better than the springs. I haven’t fully tested all the spring tensions though so the jury’s still out on that. Suspension definitely improves performance on my bumpy track though. It seems to make the cars easier to drive and more predictable.

4X8 wood hill climb
one 36" radius turn and
3 24" radius turns.

The down hill str8 drops real fast. Just having to use less brake and coast into the turns and flat out coming out of the turns, just thought that if there was a suspension it might help to hit the turns a little harder!

Hi Marty, you can certainly try a suspension kit, but, given you are running on a wood track, I honestly suggest you save your money.

You may want to try the silicone washers produced by Mossetti racing,....these are sold under the ScaleRacing name and are carried by SCC, 132Slotcarus. and others.

Unlike the Tslot foam washers, silicone has a much longer and more consistent life......after not too long the foam washers will lose some of their memory, and will not rebound as they did new. If you are interested, I would suggest the SR1500 (1.0mm) and the SR1501 (.5mm) sizes.

These also work very well between the bosy posts and chassis lugs,.......glued to the chassis plate.

While this is not an NSR chassis, I use these silicone washers on all podded chassis.........between the chassis and the body posts, and both above and below the pod lugs.
You will need to sand/file the bottom of the motor pod lugs (by
thickness of the washer) to maintain the original vertical positioning of the pod.




This is an NSR, but it is hard to see the silicone washers as they are red.

Nice attention to detail! That is where I am headed to! Is that a pre-made rear axle housing? Good idea to stiffen up the rear mounts.

The rear axle tube(with bushings) is from Sloting Plus,.....they have been around for almost 15 years, and were originally designed for use with Ninco anglewinders. They come in 3 different lengths and are a godsend,......they do certainly add a lot of stiffening to a lot of motor pods, and with the bushings set into the tube, if there is ever any flex in the rear uprights, the single piece axle tube eliminates any misalignment of the bushings......no binding of the rear axle !!

Austin, If you reread my post (#2), I mentioned that either tape across the pod/chassis plate, OR, silicone washers were preferable to spring suspension on a wood track.

The benefits of silicone washers vs. tape are ,.....tape will fatigue after a certain amount of "flexes" (silicone lasts much much longer in this regard),.....tape can peel off, and cause issues (washers won't),..... if secured with Nylok nuts, the flex in the car is tamperproof, (not a bad idea in a long proxy),......silicone washers can also be very effective in reducing vibrations when used between the body post and chassis,.......most importantly, washers and Nylok nuts look way cooler !!

I found 24" is a comfortable tight turn for most any car. Your elevation appears to be less than 1" per foot. I don't see how a suspension kit would help at all. A controller with adjustable brakes and adjustable power supply would do more good, if you don't have these things already. For that track, I would be running around 10V with an NSR car, with some front wheel height adjustment, pod float and a little tape.

Yes pretty much 1'"per foot. In the middle coming down the str8 it dips almost 1" in about 3 "! Did that on purpose, and am going to make it even more steep just for kicks! I'm bored I take care of my life partner who was inured at an early stage in her life, 24/7 care Thank God I'm retarded oops I mean retired HAHAHA

I agree with all statements here, particularly if your continuing to tune, race to race, and not sending your car off to a proxy.
Adjust your float with pod screws, maybe try different washers, use some tape after you get what you're looking for and get out there and peg it.
All my Vettes and my R18 LMP run so well, I have to almost over-drive them, and do uncharacteristic things to deslot on wood.

Yep I'm over tuning "just because" I am home bound for my disabled girl can't get out much so I try to better my times and like you push too hard and crash so I am trying different methods to my madness!!!! "Evil non genius working here" HA HA HA !!!
