Disassembly of Scalextric Dodge Charger Daytona

Hi All,

I just received this car, and I was in the process of taking it apart, when I found that the front won't come loose. Not wanting to break anything, as this wasn't a cheap car, but what is the secret to taking the body off this car? Does the nose simply pop off? It looks like it might, but I don't want to break anything. I've removed all 6 screws, but the front is still held on with something.

Scott,
The nose is glued on - you have to cut the chassis in order to open it up. If you want one of those to mess around with I will give you mine and you can see if you can get it to work for you and then give me what you think is fair.

I don't know how Scalextric could be so stupid in designing something like this. Obviously quality control isn't a high priority for them.

Holt crap, they didn't even attempt to make the nose fit flush with the body..

At the time I thought about getting one of these but that oversize nose put me off.

I think I had mine apart many moons ago when I bought mine. Could be wrong. I will have to check mine after work.

Yes, I ended up getting one of these as well rather than the Scalex version.

Ok. Well here you go. With some gentle persuasion I got it apart. There is a dab of glue at the front lower part of the fender that glue's to the nose cone. I took a X-acto knife and very carefully put it between the nose cone and chassis (see pic) and pulled up on the body and it popped right off. I have the Carrera version also, but I couldn't pass on this one back when it came out. Being a fan of the winged cars , I find the poor execution being kind of charming/interesting. It looks fine running around the track.

I had thought of picking another one up back when they were still available and converting it to a regular Charger 500. The wing will pop out. Add the Charger grille and bumper and fill the wing holes up and touch up the paint. They have gotten a bit pricey now. Wouldn't mine trying it though. 😊

Thanks for the visuals. If I had known the car had the nose glued on like that, I wouldn't have bothered buying it. Pretty tough to get body float on this car, without butchering it.

I've got the #22 even though it's apparently not absolutely correct body but it's one of the quickest cars in our Nascar and stockers grid.

It would seem that Scalextric has found a way to totally screw up another American car. The tunnel window and hubcaps on the #22 car were colossal dummy moves, but that Bulbous Nose just has to be recalled. That's ridiculous.

I forgot about the hubcaps, but those gold wheels do look the part on my '55 Chev Nomad wagon.

Yes ,those wheels ended up on a few projects of mine too. Great looking Nomad by the way.
